At KiwiRail, we’re on a journey to deliver stronger connections for a better New Zealand. For over 150 years, our rail network has supported communities, transported goods, and connected people across Aotearoa.
As we continue to transform how we move freight and people, we remain grounded in our values: safety, inclusion, teamwork, and sustainability. Our people work together to build a future-focused rail system that benefits generations to come.

We’re looking for someone who understands the importance of safety, learning, and adaptability. You’ll bring:

  • Proven experience designing and leading training programmes in technical or safety-critical industries
  • Strong project management skills – able to deliver outcomes on time and within budget
  • Deep understanding of adult learning and instructional design principles
  • Confidence working with new technology rollouts and transformation programmes
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders

Responsibilities

We’re upgrading and modernising New Zealand’s metro rail network, and our Network Readiness team is central to that change. As New Technology Training and Competency Design Project Manager, you’ll lead the design and rollout of a training framework that helps our people adapt to innovative technologies – from Mobile Radio Warning Systems to automated maintenance.
You’ll oversee the entire project lifecycle – from planning and content design through to delivery and competency assessment – ensuring our frontline teams are skilled, safe, and confident in a rapidly evolving environment.
This is a unique opportunity to bring together learning design, stakeholder collaboration, and change leadership to drive transformation across Auckland and Wellington’s metro networks.
