POSITION OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the Executive Director of Literacy Quesnel, the Newcomers Services Program Coordinator plays a key role in supporting newcomers and non-permanent residents in the Quesnel area. This position focuses on coordinating and delivering English language services, supporting settlement needs, and fostering integration into the local community. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with a team to ensure high-quality, responsive programming.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Experience teaching ELL/ESL classes
  • Knowledge of the Quesnel community and local resources
  • Strong English communication skills (written and spoken)
  • Experience in outreach, community engagement, or settlement services
  • Cultural competence and sensitivity
  • Understanding of literacy and essential skills development
  • Compassion for and experience working with marginalized or vulnerable populations
  • Strong computer skills and comfort with digital tools
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities
  • Ability to work independently and be self-directed
  • Commitment to confidentiality and professional ethics

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:PROGRAM DELIVERY:

  • Coordinate and facilitate ESL programs, including group sessions, guest speakers, and field trips
  • Support clients in improving English language skills and preparing for Canadian citizenship
  • Foster community and workforce connections to enhance employability
  • Help clients access community and government services
  • Organize and lead weekly Conversation Cafés

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES:

  • Prepare and maintain program records, reports, and documentation
  • Manage communication, scheduling, and client follow-up
  • Prepare presentations, invoices, and timesheets
