ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

  • Physically Fit.
  • Full UK Driving Licence with a minimum of two years driving experience.
  • Proven experience and a good understanding of the transportation and storage of surgical sets and medical devices including samples and bloods.
  • Knowledge of COSHH, manual handling, fire awareness, infection control and clinical waste disposal.
  • Evidence of accuracy and attention to detail when record-keeping and monitoring vehicle maintenance.
  • Good Knowledge of local and surrounding areas.
  • Good standard of Education – minimum of 3 GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade C or above to include English and Maths or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, using effective communication skills with colleagues.
  • Ability to work alone and use initiative where required.
  • Ability to relate well to colleagues, Trust staff, business partners and members of the pubic.
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated, flexible and willing to learn and share experience and knowledge.

Responsibilities:

JOB PURPOSE:

Principally, to deliver by van any Medical devices and surgical equipment, specimens, bloods or any items for or on behalf of University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust. Additionally, to support any general stores activity associated with the Sterilisation Disinfection unit services.

PRIMARY DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  1. The driving of all vehicles used by University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust as required within the requirements of the Road Traffic Act and within the legal limits of the licence groups held.
  2. The completion of daily checks and relevant documentation for any vehicle used in keeping with the Transport Department Policy. This is to include checking, and replenishing if necessary; fuel, oil, water, tyre pressures and all relevant fluid or oil levels. To ensure the tyres brakes, lights and steering operate in a safe and satisfactory manner daily before driving the vehicle on a public road.
  3. Responsibility for the roadworthiness of any vehicle being used and the security, safety and stability of all loads carried.
  4. Cleaning the vehicle inside and out on a regular, as needed, basis.
  5. Reporting any accident, however minor, to the Duty Service Manager and to complete all relevant documentation.
  6. Reporting any defects on the vehicle to the Duty Service Manager.
  7. The accurate loading and unloading of all medical equipment surgical sets and medical devices associated with the trusts work including bloods and specimens.
  8. The safe loading and unloading of the vehicles recognising the requirements of The Manual Handling Regulations. To maintain the security, safety and stability of all loads carried throughout the working day is a legal requirement and it remains the driver’s responsibility. This must always be taken into consideration when the vehicle is loaded.
  9. When required will support the SDU general stores area with stock control and rotation, including departmental stock takes, the issuing of goods and the storage of the same. Using the department’s telephones to communicate as necessary, taking messages and then dealing promptly and accurately with any equipment requests and inventory storage and distribution.
  10. Keeping the SDU dispatch area and loading bays clean and tidy.
  11. The routine collection and delivery of all commodities as required, by the sterilisation and disinfection unit and as required by the trust. Completing all necessary documentation in an accurate and timely manner. On occasion, there is a need to obtain signatures against receipts and all deliveries must be completed accurately and the records retained.
  12. Compliance with all of the Policies and Procedures of the University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust.
    Working to the sterilisation and disinfection units protocols, SOPs and systems provided
  13. Completion of all necessary documentation as required in relation to the post held.
  14. Any other duties as may be required for the effective and efficient running of the sterilisation and disinfection unit.
    Hours: 30 Hours Per week
    Mon to Fri 08:00am - 16:00pm
