Fagan & Whalley have an opportunity for a Night Operations Manager to join our team.
Within this role, you will oversee and manage F&W’s operations through the night which includes but isn’t limited to; planning and routing customer’s requirements, monitoring vehicles, managing drivers and working closely with other departments such as maintenance and warehousing.

Responsibilities

MAIN DUTIES OF THE ROLE INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Reporting directly to the Operations Manager
  • Drive the relevant company vision, mission, values and culture
  • To plan and coordinate customer demand, resources and available capacity
  • Responsible for managing change positively and effectively by pro-actively managing operational planning to adhere to customer’s changing requirements
  • Ensuring customer requirements are administered in a timely, controlled, and recorded manner within the transport operation
  • To ensure good quality communication with customers on a day-to-day basis and to deliver any agreed actions required to keep the operation efficient
  • Carrying out tasks to aid sub-departments within operations such as pallet distribution planning/routing
  • To ensure that the transport function is legally compliant by ensuring correct compliance processes are in place, and monitored within the O-licence regulations
  • Monitoring day to day activities of transport operation – e.g. tracking drivers/reporting lates or delays/delivery issues etc
  • Effective management and supervision of drivers, acting within a team as a main point of contact and support
  • Giving instructions to drivers, ensuring all communication is clear and concise
  • Dealing with driver issues in a polite and timely manner
  • To conduct incident and disciplinary investigations in accordance with company procedure
  • Ensuring all information is updated onto the system in a timely and accurate manner, i.e. trip debriefs etc
  • Ensuring key performance Indicators (KPIs) are achieved
  • Providing operational support when necessary and working fluently as a member of the department
  • Communicating with other departments of the business such as warehouse and maintenance
  • Take responsibility for health and safety and the co-ordination of associated activities, enforcing company H&S policies where necessary.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS ROLE INCLUDE:

  • Planning and organising skills with a high level of numeracy.
  • Ability to manage workload, multitask, problem solve and work efficiently under pressure.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Excellent local and national geographical knowledge.
  • Competent IT skills to navigate our bespoke Transport Management System.
  • Good organisation and time management skills.
  • Able to work well individually and as part of a team.
  • Commercially focused, consumer orientated and customer service driven.
  • Highly tolerant of change – able to work within an evolving organisation.
  • Genuine team player.
  • An effective communicator at all levels, good verbal and written skills.
  • National and International CPC qualification – desirable.
