Description

The purpose of the night porter is to ensure the safety and security of the venue during
nighttime hours while assisting and supporting to guests as needed. They typically
handle tasks such as monitoring security, performing security patrols, assisting with
guest check-ins and check-outs, responding to guest inquiries or requests, and
maintaining cleanliness in public areas. Additionally, night porters may be responsible
for handling late-night arrivals, and addressing any emergencies that may arise during
their shift. Overall, their role is essential in providing a comfortable and secure
environment for guests, whilst maintaining operational efficiency during non business hours.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1. Reporting to the operations manager, the direct senior, and the general
manager in their absence.
2. Ensuring that one is fully trained and efficient in all night porter functions and
has a comprehensive understanding of all company policies applicable to their
role.
3. Becoming fully trained and experienced in the core functions of front of house
staff for effective management and coordination of this team.
4. Being able to jump in and cover a front of house staff member in their
absence.
5. Overseeing venue security overnight by conducting regular inspections
throughout the building to make sure all doors and windows are closed, and
the venue is fully secure and locked overnight.
6. Providing excellent customer service to late afternoon and evening guests’
requirements.
7. Conducting late check-in and/or early check-out for guests, as needed.
8. Adhering to and maintaining Fire Safety and being the Fire Marshal in the
case of a fire.
9. Monitoring Reception phone and attending to hotel guest calls as needed.
10. Being the venue guest point of contact in the evenings and overnight.
11. Preparing venue spaces for the next wedding or event by setting tables and
chairs, storage of equipment and venue furniture and clearing items.
12. Assisting with restocking venue supplies, as needed.
13. Assisting with exterior space set-ups and cleaning
14. Assisting with emergency maintenance issues, when required, and within
one’s training and capabilities.
15. Assisting with the storage and upkeep of bar equipment, event linen, tables,
and chairs.
16. Maintaining accurate and orderly administration as required as part of this
role.
17. Reporting accurate individual statistics to operations manager on time.
18. Attending weekly staff meetings, as required.
