Description:

The Department of Biology, Chemistry and Geography in the Faculty of Arts and Science at Nipissing University invites applications for a Tenure Track, Assistant or Associate Professor in Earth and Environmental Science. This position is located in North Bay, Ontario and will commence July 1, 2025.
Applications are welcome from all areas of Earth and Environmental Science, with preferred interest in Climate Sciences. We seek expertise that complements our existing strengths in the Department of Biology, Chemistry, and Geography and other environment-related sciences. The successful candidate will develop a strong externally funded research program. They will be a contributing member of, and supervise graduate students in, the interdisciplinary Master of Environmental Studies/Master of Environmental Science (MES/MESc) graduate program.
The successful candidate will have a completed PhD in a field related to Environmental and Earth Sciences. The successful candidate must have state-of-the-art research experience demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications and/or other similar documentation illustrating the impact of the candidate’s research.
The successful candidate will have the ability to teach and develop curriculum in the areas of environmental and earth sciences, and/or physical geography. Candidates must have demonstrated teaching capability in either formal or informal settings and be interested in contributing to interdisciplinary teaching within the MES/MESc graduate program. The ability to contribute to an approved BSc in Environmental Science is a requirement.
Although an ideal candidate will have expertise in climate sciences, the position is open to other scientific areas of Earth and Environmental Sciences. Existing laboratory infrastructure includes an Elementar Vario Pyro Cube and VisION mass spectrometer that can support a wide range of research applications, a Picarro liquid water isotope analyzer, cold vapour atomic fluorescence spectroscopy (CVAFS) and GC-CVAFS total- and methyl-mercury analysers, Ion Chromatography, Q-TOF MS, and NMR. Additional resources include a network of weather stations that provides regional monitoring for local agricultural producers, the Earth Observation laboratory for observation of landcover/land use change detection, state-of-the art Geomatics hardware and software. Complementary ongoing research activities include watershed-scale hydrology and water quality studies with a range of applications, ecological restoration studies, and study of ecological drivers of forest health and sustainability with application to forest resource management and impacts of climate change.
The annual salary will correspond with qualifications and experience and will follow the Nipissing University Faculty Association (NUFA) Collective Agreement.
