Job Summary This position supports the Door County Sheriff's Office by providing volunteer, non-sworn assistance at public functions, major events, and during prisoner transport activities. While not a certified law enforcement officer, the Non-Sworn Reserve Deputy contributes to community safety and operational efficiency through direct support of full-time deputies and department personnel. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Provides security presence at public events to support public safety and deter disturbances. Directs vehicle and pedestrian traffic at major events to ensure smooth and safe flow. Assists with the oversight and security of prisoners during events and transports. Transports detainees between facilities while ensuring compliance with departmental safety protocols. Supports full-time deputies in various field operations as directed by the Sheriff or designee. Delivers basic emergency first aid in the field during events or transports. Attends and participates in department-required training sessions including, but not limited to, defense arrest tactics and Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) instruction. Performs assigned duties with professionalism and according to departmental policy and legal standards. Maintains accurate and timely verbal and written communications and reports. Operates departmental communications and safety equipment proficiently. Key Competencies & Skills Public Safety Awareness: Maintains vigilance in dynamic environments to ensure safety. Communication: Delivers clear verbal updates and detailed written reports to team members and supervisors. Team Support: Cooperates with sworn personnel and staff in executing duties and responding to directives. Situational Judgment: Responds quickly and appropriately to emerging circumstances using departmental protocols. Technical Proficiency: Operates standard police radios and relevant safety equipment. Professional Integrity: Demonstrates honesty and discretion in all assignments and public interactions. Required Education & Experience At least 18 years of age. Valid driver's license. High School Diploma or equivalent Successful completion of the Non-Sworn Reserve Deputy – Field Training Officer (FTO) program. Preferred Education & Experience Enrollment or completion of coursework in criminal justice or related public safety field. Prior experience in public event security, emergency response, or similar roles. Physical & Work Environment Requirements This position involves varied physical activity, including frequent sitting, speaking, and hearing, and occasional standing, walking, reaching, stooping, or lifting up to 60 pounds. Work is performed in diverse environments including outdoor events and transport settings, requiring mental alertness and physical agility. Vision requirements include the ability to perceive detail, depth, and movement. Flexibility is essential due to the dynamic nature of duties such as building inspections, emergency response, and prisoner interaction.
