INTRODUCTION

The Wisconsin DNR is dedicated to working with Wisconsinites while preserving and enhancing the natural resources of Wisconsin. In partnership with individuals and organizations, DNR staff manage fish, wildlife, forests, parks, air and water resources while promoting a healthy, sustainable environment and a full range of outdoor opportunities.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position leads, directs and administers policy, personnel, and budget activities
associated with the North Central region’s Tax Law programs. It provides leadership and management to the program, talent development and supervision to program specialists within the region, and program performance management. This position serves as a business systems-process improvement expert and thought leader for the Division in Managed Forest Law and Forest Crop Law, setting the pace for the Division through leadership, innovation, adaptation, best practices, and program communications and partnerships. Customer and partner groups may include forestry and non-forestry DNR staff, citizens, citizen groups, tribal governments, industry leaders, and governmental and educational representatives.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE EXPERIENCE IN ALL THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:

  • Work experience in forest management assisting landowners or property managers to meet a variety of objectives such as timber production, wildlife habitat, forest health, etc.
  • Experience authoring forest stewardship plans, designing, establishing and administering timber sales and forestry-related landowner incentive programs.
  • Experience providing leadership for a project or team, including most of the following (see benchmarks):
  • Assigning work to team members
  • Evaluating overall team performance and progress towards goals
  • Monitoring and coaching individual performance
  • Addressing conflict within the team (e.g., examining issues/complaints, taking corrective action, etc.)

In addition, preferred qualifications include any of the following criteria:

  • Experience advising or administering landowners or other customer groups on the Wisconsin Forestry Tax Law program, or equivalent landowner incentive programs in other states.
  • Experience as a supervisor in a natural resources program.
  • Experience developing annual work plans and performance objectives and measures as a certified plan writer.
