Description
Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Shop Manager to oversee daily operations in a fast-paced custom fabrication shop. This position will manage approximately 10–12 craft and trade employees while ensuring work is completed safely, accurately, and efficiently. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on knowledge of welding, machining, fabrication, and finishing processes, along with proven experience leading employees in an industrial, manufacturing, or custom fabrication environment. This role requires a leader who can hold employees accountable, communicate clearly, maintain accurate documentation, and set the tone for a positive and productive shop culture. Employee Management Directly supervise craft and trade employees, including daily work direction, scheduling, and task assignments Provide clear expectations, priorities, and follow-up throughout the workday Conduct regular performance conversations and provide timely, constructive feedback Address performance concerns promptly and in accordance with company policy Support employee development through hands-on coaching and skills training Participate in hiring, onboarding, and disciplinary processes in coordination with HR Complete administrative tasks related to payroll reporting, attendance, and shop documentation Promote accountability while maintaining a positive, professional, and high-performing team environment Tools, Equipment, and Shop Oversight Oversee the proper use, care, maintenance, and accountability of shop tools and equipment Ensure equipment is in safe working condition and inspections and maintenance schedules are followed Enforce company policies regarding tool handling, storage, cleanliness, and care Track equipment inventory and report needs, shortages, or deficiencies to the Division Manager Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient shop environment Communication and Documentation Communicate daily work expectations, priorities, updates, and changes clearly to shop employees Serve as the primary communication link between the shop floor and Division Manager Prepare and maintain accurate written documentation, including logs, reports, shift records, and other required records Address employee questions, concerns, or conflicts in a professional and constructive manner Promote open communication, teamwork, and trust within the shop Required Qualifications Minimum of 5 years of supervisory or management experience overseeing craft or trade employees in a fabrication, manufacturing, machine shop, or industrial environment Professional references required Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record Must pass a background check Hands-on knowledge of welding processes, including MIG and TIG, across a variety of metals Certified welding credentials are a plus Proficiency in machine shop operations, including drilling, milling, tapping, blueprint interpretation, CNC lathes, CNC mills, and related processes Experience with metal finishing processes, including painting, abrasive blasting, graining, sanding, and powder coating Patina application experience is a plus Experience in decorative metal forming and/or forging is a plus but not required Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to deliver constructive feedback, resolve conflict, and motivate employees professionally Proven ability to hold employees accountable while maintaining morale and team trust Solid organizational skills with strong attention to detail in documentation and reporting Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced custom fabrication environment Demonstrated positive attitude, professionalism, and personal integrity Ability to lead by example and promote a safe, productive, and respectful work environment Location: Shop / Custom Fabrication Environment Schedule: Full-Time, Monday–Thursday, 5:30 AM–4:15 PM Overtime/Travel: Some overtime and travel required Pay: $30.00–$35.00 per hour to start Work Environment: Climate-controlled shop
