Description

Cardiology Service responsibilities: Will provide Cardiology services as required for patients at the Hospital, all without regard to source of payment. All such Services shall be performed consistent with all applicable legal requirements and in a professional and cooperative manner. Assist in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of Cardiology and related services provided at the Hospital. Responsible for obtaining and coordinating the following general items: history and physical, laboratory results, charting of clinical findings, admissions orders, nursing instructions and other required elements. Works closely and cooperatively with the Hospital and the Cardiologists and other providers on the Hospital’s Medical Staff in clinically integrating the Hospital’s Cardiology service line across inpatient and outpatient settings as well as across all Hospital sites and otherwise within the Cape Cod Healthcare system. Return calls to patients and Hospital personnel on a timely basis. Place timely calls to patients and Hospital personnel as needed for ancillary test results, to order follow-up tests, and/or to initiate treatment orders, etc. o Provides Night-time and/or weekend coverage Hospital Rounds as determined by the Cardiology team and based on patient needs and demands. o Required to be immediately available to nurses and other Hospital staff for questions and problems relating to patients during the course of their Hospital treatment (whether inpatient or outpatient) as well as on admission and discharge related matters. Assist as a family liaison. Medical Treatment Care: Responsible for many aspects of care under the supervision of the attending physician, including but not limited to: fluid and electrolyte management, nutrition, pain management, transfusion therapy, anticoagulation management, education and post-discharge planning. Following procedures, manage, monitor and manage arrhythmias, pacing, drug therapy, O ‑ therapy, and other non-cardiac medications, under supervision of the attending physician. Assists in the evaluation and management of clinical events such as fever, altered hemodynamics, CHF, pulmonary, complication, abrupt vessel closure, arrhythmias, access site complications and others. Assists in transfers to and from the intensive care units. Discharge Planning: Performs patient education regarding discharge including preventive care and risk factor reduction. He/she will write discharge orders, prescriptions and dictate discharge summaries in collaboration with the attending physician. Acts as a liaison between the attending Cardiologist and family members, and will schedule follow-up care as necessary, including VNA if needed. Research and Education Provided the opportunity to participate in aspects of research involving planning, performance, and analysis of data, and publication. Must complete 100 hours of continuing medical education necessary during each 2-year period of employment to maintain his/her PE certification Status. He/she must pass a National PE re-certification exam every six years. The PE is to be ACLS provider and is to be re-certified every two years. Attends internal and external education meetings and read appropriate professional journals in order to maintain and enhance skills and clinical competence. Encouraged to advance his/her medical and tactical skills as appropriate to deliver optimum patient care. Supervisory Responsibilities Supervises medical students (MD and/or physician assistant) who do clinical rotations in the Cardiology Department as directed by the attending physician. Teaches students, house staff, nurses, technicians and cardiology fellows as instructed by the attending physician, particularly with regard to the evaluation, treatment and longitudinal care of patients with cardiovascular disease. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING (NP): Master's Degree Current BLS Current ACLS Massachusetts Nursing License US Department of Justice and Massachusetts’ Controlled Substance DEA Registrations are required for prescribing practitioners Three to five years’ cardiovascular service-line experience, preferred EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING (PA): Master's Degree Current BLS Current ACLS Must be a graduate of a graduate of a 2-year level program approved by the AMA Board of Approval and Certification of PA Programs US Department of Justice and Massachusetts’ Controlled Substance DEA Registrations are required for prescribing practitioners Active certification from NCCPA; National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, preferred Three to five years’ experience, preferred EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING: Must have broad knowledge of the medical environment and surgical procedures. Must exercise the highest degree of professional judgment under the direction and guidance of a licensed physician/surgeon. Must be able to manage and direct other clinical staff in order to carry out patient care plans. Must leverage staffing resources and take action when clinical or professional performance does not meet the standards of care. Must be able to accept instruction and guidance as assume graded responsibility within a complex teamwork framework. Must be able to administer such care and treatment and exercise independent originality in problem solving not covered by existing guidelines, within legal limits, to meet the needs of the patient. Must maintain a professional attitude toward patients and family members at all times and develop sound working relationships with other staff involved in patient care. To maintain and enhance skill and clinical competence must attend internal and external educational meetings and read appropriate professional journals and literature.

Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive cardiology services for hospital patients, including managing clinical findings, admissions, and post-discharge planning. Coordinate care across inpatient and outpatient settings while supervising medical students and collaborating with attending physicians.
