JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Nuclear Safety Engineer.
Reporting to the Manager of Engineering, this position is responsible for coordinating and collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders to understand schedules, finances and performance for the assiged projects.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Perform safety analysis, including participation in multi-disciplinary projects and responsible for deciphering and managing the link between the design basis, safety analysis and operation of the station.
  • Preparation, maintenance and application of Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA) to identify, mitigate, and manage risk at OPG’s nuclear facilities.
  • Development and maintenance of PSA Guides in accordance with REGDOC 2.4.2, CSA N290.17-17, and other industry standards such IAEA Safety Standard SSG-3, and SSG-4.
  • Development and maintenance of internal and external hazards screening analysis using qualitative and quantitative approaches.
  • Provide vendor oversight, review and acceptance of PSA deliverables including hazard screening analysis, initiating event quantification, event tree analysis, fault tree analysis, human reliability analysis, accident sequence analysis, severe accidents, and integrated risk models.
  • Preparation and maintenance of beyond design basis accident documents including Severe Accident Management Guidelines and Emergency Mitigating Equipment Guidelines.
  • Provide technical evaluations and advice, solve problems and coordinate technical work as required, in a number of major work areas, in support of the commissioning, operation and maintenance of the facilities.
  • Developing and executing projects in compliance with the industry’s demanding set of regulations and standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4 year Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Science or Engineering.
  • Advanced education (Master’s or Ph.D.) are considered as an asset.
  • Minimum of 2 years of engineering experience, preferably in a nuclear setting.
  • Experience in managing regulatory and licensing issues within nuclear safety context.
  • Knowledge and experience in Safe Operating Envelope (SOE), Thermal Hydraulic Analysis, Safety Report preparation, Heat Sinks Assessments, Operational Safety Reports (OSRs), Probabilistic Safety Analysis (PSA), unavailability models and understanding of Components & Systems importance to safety is an asset for this position.
  • Strong in understanding, executing and following governance and procedures with a questioning and analytical attitude/approach under minimum required supervision.
  • Experience and ability as a team player to understand and manage the interrelationships of various internal and external groups in order to facilitate objectives and ensure projects satisfy stakeholder requirements.
  • Experience in qualification, certification, and maintenance of risk and reliability software in accordance with the requirements of CSA N286.7-16.
  • Experience in the use and application of PSA software including but not limited to Phoenix Risk Architect, FTREX, FRANX, SYSIMP, UNCERT, QRecover, and MAAP5-CANDU.
  • Experience in initiating, scoping, participating, and collaborating with industry PSA peers such as Conexus, EPRI, IAEA and other nuclear utilities.
  • Candidate must be a fully licensed engineer in the province of Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario (Engineering roles only)

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions.
