EDUCATION

A Mechanical, Mechatronic or Electromechanical Engineering Technology diploma or equivalent. Certified Engineering Technologist is preferred.

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in nuclear tooling/equipment development and testing, as well as field support experience is an asset. Thorough understanding of machine design and build, and structured problem solving is necessary. Good written and oral communication skills and ability to lead or work as part of a multi-disciplinary project team are essential.
Responsibilities

MAJOR DUTIES

Nuclear Technologist works with the ATS design and assembly team, project manager, and the customer to develop, test, and implement system solutions, including prototype equipment, that meet the customer’s process requirements. In this role, you have direct responsibility for mechanical/electro-mechanical systems, with input and support from mechanical and electrical assembly, and controls software.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides input and review of design requirements, specifications, design documentation, and drawings.
  • Responsible for learning the customer process and becoming the local expert in it, to support the design, integration, and verification of the system/equipment.
  • Participates in risk mitigation activities by preparing concept technical risk assessments, working with engineering and external vendors during design stage, and performing proof of principle testing,
  • Participates in design reviews with customers, vendors and internal design groups.
  • Participates in the integration, commissioning, and troubleshooting of systems and equipment.
  • Accountable for verifying that the system/equipment meets design requirements.
  • Prepares or provides input to test plans for proof of concept, design verification, and acceptance testing.
  • Prepares or provides input to other engineering documentation, such as Safety Risk Assessment, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, Installation/Commissioning Plan, Operating/Maintenance Manual, etc.
  • Conducts testing (design verification, factory acceptance, site acceptance, etc.) to validate that the system/equipment meets the design requirements, and prepares test reports.
  • Provides site support for tooling and equipment as required.
  • Provide technical support to ATS’ worldwide divisions.
  • Requires Nuclear Energy Worker status, and work at locations with radiological hazards, including nuclear site work.
  • Coordinates project activities with suppliers and conducts evaluations or acceptance testing for approving process critical third party equipment.
  • Assists in the development of systems design concept and labour hours budget in quote preparation.
  • Engages in or assists with department level or organizational continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide engineering and assembly support, including related to construction of CSA B51 and CSA N285.0 pressure boundary components within the ATS Certificate of Authorization.
  • Strictly follow CSA N285/NQA Quality requirements as defined within the QA manual and procedures.
  • Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.
  • Adhere to all health and safety rules and procedures.
