The Numeracy Lead Teacher serves as a vital bridge between instructional practice and numeracy education across the division. This half-time role supports strategic numeracy planning and instructional innovation, ensuring that teaching practices enhance student learning, assessment, and engagement in mathematics. The position plays a strategic role in division-wide education planning and the implementation of key numeracy initiatives.
The successful candidate will be an educator with a strong background in classroom teaching, particularly in mathematics. The role emphasizes collaboration, mentorship, and leadership in driving pedagogical excellence and effective numeracy instruction across various learning environments.

Responsibilities

The Numeracy Lead Teacher’s main role is to enhance numeracy instruction, ensuring that every student can reach their academic potential. This includes:

  • Working directly with teachers to implement best practices in data usage, analyzing school-wide instructional trends, and recommending next steps to address areas of student need.
  • Working collaboratively with district office personnel, school administrators, and staff to implement research-based classroom practices focused on numeracy
  • Providing professional learning for teachers on effective numeracy instruction, including data-driven strategies and formative assessment.
  • Offering in-class support and modeling to help teachers build their capacity in numeracy instruction and assessment.
  • Collaborating with the Education Services Team to share best practices and create system-wide numeracy procedures.
  • Advising on and recommending instructional resources for mathematics.
  • Assisting teachers in diagnosing areas for growth in mathematics for individual students and recommending appropriate interventions and strategies.

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor of Education and a valid Alberta Teaching Certificate
  • Demonstrated experience with classroom teaching at multiple grade levels
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present information and engage staff in professional development
  • Growth mindset with a passion for continuous learning
  • Clear Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Check
