POSITION OVERVIEW

The HSHR Coordinator applies a population health and health equity approach and harm reduction principles, to priority population health issues (e.g. STBBI prevention, care and services for people who use drugs). Working within the Population and Public Health framework, the Healthy Sexuality and Harm Reduction Coordinator in collaboration with the Team Manager, Program Specialists, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Medical Officers of Health, and others will provide leadership, clinical consultation, education and support to HSHR staff, with a primary focus in the areas of Healthy Sexuality and Harm Reduction. This position will work closely with both direct care and management staff to support program and practice excellence.
The Healthy Sexuality and Harm Reduction program serves a large proportion of clients who are Indigenous. The WRHA recognizes the importance of building an exemplary health care labour force that is inclusive and reflective of the population it serves. EXPERIENCE

• Minimum 5 years recent community or public health nursing experience with an emphasis on healthy sexuality and harm reduction required.
• Experience with adult education and teaching/education of individuals and groups as well as in designing and implementing evaluation processes for training/staff development sessions and applying feedback to improve future sessions.
• Experience working with multi-sectoral partnerships within and beyond the health services sector.
• Experience with program planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation.

EDUCATION (DEGREE/DIPLOMA/CERTIFICATE)

• Baccalaureate degree in Nursing required.
• Master’s degree in directly related field (e.g., Nursing, Public Health, Community Health Sciences, Epidemiology, Education) preferred.
• Preferred successful completion of:
• Canadian Community Health Nurses certification - CCHN(C).
• Public Health Agency of Canada’s Skills Enhancement for Public Health Program content module certificate.
• Related course work at a graduate level (e.g., epidemiology, community development, community nursing, sexual and reproductive health).

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

• Recent (last two years) professional development relevant to the role such as healthy sexuality, harm reduction, cultural safety, gender affirming care, trauma and violence informed care, sexually transmitted infections.
• Demonstrated skills in population health and health equity practice.
• Demonstrated clinical skills in all aspects of Public Health Nursing service.
• Demonstrated clinical expertise within the area of harm reduction, healthy sexuality, sexually transmitted and blood borne infections.
• Knowledge of regulations, legislative acts governing health care and scope of practice that guide the professional practice of various disciplines.
• The ability to critically analyze information from a variety of sources and apply relevant knowledge to practice.
• Demonstrated application of principles of population health, public health, health equity, community level work and harm reduction, particularly in a cross-sectoral context.
• Demonstrated commitment to rights-based reconciliation, and promoting culturally safe care environments.
• Ability to work independently and effectively with other levels of government, jurisdictions, and organizations on a provincial and national level.
• Demonstrated leadership, team building, organizational, analytical, decision-making, problem-solving, and conflict management skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills. Experience with media and communications preferred.
• Demonstrated computer skills in particular preparing reports and presentations, website management. Proficiency with data analysis software an asset.
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Familiarity with epidemiology and biostatistics an asset.
• Ability to apply effective interpersonal skills to develop working relationships and leadership in interdisciplinary, inter and intra-sectoral contexts.
• Scope of practice as documented in the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA)/Registered Psychiatric Nurses Act.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Physically capable of carrying out clinical skills such as administering vaccines, intra-dermal injection, phlebotomy.
• Physically capable of providing service in a wide variety of community settings under varying weather and environmental conditions.
• Must be able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 6.8 kg.
• Access to a reliable motor vehicle suitable for all environmental conditions.
• Subject to immunizations as per WRHA Policy.
