The RN/RPN is required to coordinate with all the departments within the facility, families and professionals associated with P/R/Cs care. The RN/RPN must promote effective communication in the facility through care given and reporting mechanisms. The RN/RPN is expected to participate in staff meetings and educational opportunities to maintain their own professional competence. Human Resources Exemption: No Education * Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing (BPN) Other Education and Training * Bachelor of Nursing is acceptable * Nursing diploma is acceptable * Basic Life Support Certificate (BLS) * Psychiatric Nursing diploma is acceptable Competencies * Basic - Facilitation skills * Basic - Mediation skills * Basic - Communication skills * Basic - Decision making skills * Basic - Computer skills * Basic - Assessment skills * Basic - Counseling skills Knowledge and Abilities * Knowledge of commonly used psychotropic medications * Ability to adapt to changing conditions * Ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team * Competency in psychiatric nursing assessments, care planning & treatment * Ability to keep effective work relationships with clients of diverse backgrounds * Knowledge of the the Provincial Mental Health Services Act and Regulations * Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills.
