Public Health Nurses translate knowledge from the health and social sciences to support health enhancing behaviors of individuals, families, and population groups through targeted interventions, programs, and advocacy. Human Resources Exemption: No Experience Experience in public health and implementation of The Public Health Act, 1994 One (1) year of public health experience required Education Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) Licenses Valid Class 5 driver's license Basic Life Support Health Care Provider Certificate (BLS-HCP) Other Education and Training Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing is acceptable Knowledge and Abilities knowledge of public health nursing in a generalized and focused practice role Knowledge in current principles and practices of immunization Ability to use health promotion and prevention strategies for program planning Advance computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Access). Ability to exercise independent nursing judgement Knowledge in population health promotion and its relationship to health status Knowledge in applicable health promotion and health prevention initiatives Ability to work independently and as a leader of a multidisciplinary team Ability to communicate with clients from diverse social backgrounds Sound clinical judgement skills.
