Description Nephrology Specialists is seeking a dedicated and compassionate medical professional to join our team. This position will play a key role in helping the practice provide high quality care to our patients. We offer a comprehensive benefits package and competitive compensation. Collect History (new patients), review vaccines, allergies, pharmacy, social history Take Vitals, Review Update medication list Dip urine for new patients and as needed Obtain labs/history not already in chart Order tests (RUS, CT, Renal Bx) Drop Labs Review ALL lab results and check critical lab values Makes MD aware of critical lab values Carries out orders related to critical lab values Call patients regarding lab results order new prescriptions, put in new lab orders, Patient education r/t diet, medication management, hydration status Refills prescriptions- refills come through the orders/RX/Auth box usually 20 refills/day/office Checks med order to make sure it’s correct dose, medication, route Makes sure patient has been seen within last year Denies prescriptions not typically ordered by our MD, over a year since last OV and dialysis patients Obtain Prior Authorizations Follow up box If entered, all orders will show up in the follow up box if they are not completed/tied to results by the alarm date Check to see if labs have been completed- if not call patient and set tickler to have patient come in to office to complete labs Check to see if imaging orders are completed-check CC or call for results- put results in chart in review to MD Check to see if referral has been completed and if note is in the chart. If the note is not in the chart, call MD where the referral was completed and obtain records. Put record in chart and put in review to MD Set up Dialysis Starts Send demo to associated dialysis unit Ensure insurance information is verified Set up access appts Get Hep panel and labs needs 30 days prior to start Obtain chair time at unit Patient cases box Answer patient portal cases or send them to the MD Follow orders as indicated by MD in patient case Clinical document box Assign documents to appropriate MD Complete prior auths/home health documents Travel to Quinton, Warsaw and other offices as needed- travel assignment as per Management Answer nurse phone calls and voicemails Requirements Education & Licensure Active and unrestricted nursing license in the state of Virginia. BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required; ACLS preferred. Experience Minimum of 1–2 years of CMA/nursing experience in an outpatient clinic, internal medicine, nephrology, or similar setting. Familiarity with managing chronic illness, particularly kidney disease, hypertension, and diabetes, is preferred. Experience with care coordination, medication management, or patient education is a plus. Skills & Clinical Competencies Proficiency in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems (Athena preferred). Ability to educate patients on disease management, treatment plans, and medication adherence. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to build rapport with patients and support them compassionately. Administrative & Teamwork Abilities Assist with prior authorizations, referrals, and coordinating care with other specialties or dialysis centers. Support providers with chart preparation, documentation, and patient follow-up. Work Conditions Comfortable working in a fast-paced outpatient clinic setting. Ability to stand for extended periods, move freely, and assist patients as needed. Will require travel between multiple clinic locations (as needed).
Responsibilities
The Nurse/CMA will collect patient histories, review lab results, and assist with medication management. They will also coordinate care with other specialties and ensure proper documentation and follow-up.
