Job Overview Provide direct services to meet the health needs of students and staff on a school campus. Responsible for implementing the district school health services program under the clinical supervision of the school nurse (RN) and Coordinator of School Health Services Position Description Essential Duties and Responsibilities Operations Provide direct care utilizing school health protocols and care plans established by the Registered Nurse (RN) or Coordinator of School Health Services Assist the RN in maintaining accurate and complete student health records including immunizations, medication administration, individual student treatment records and screening results Perform health screenings under the direction of the supervising RN including, but not limited to, hearing, vision, scoliosis, acanthosis, height, weight, and examining the scalp Dispense medication according to state law and district policy Communication Assist the RN with referrals and follow-up for identified health problems as necessary to attain optimum health for each student Contribute to and implement the individualized student health care plans as established by the supervising RN Communicate with parents regarding individual students as directed by the supervising RN Educate faculty or staff on health related topics as directed by the supervising RN Report potential health and safety hazards to the supervising RN Budget Maintain adequate supplies in the clinic and conduct periodic inventory. High School Diploma or GED Current CPR and AED Certification Valid Texas LVN license issued by the Board of Nursing Minimum of 2 years an LVN Demonstrated knowledge of nursing procedures and techniques Demonstrated knowledge of the LVN scope of practice as defined by the Texas Board of Nursing Ability to accept supervision and direction from campus principal and/or RN Proficient in using equipment and technology for the delivery of healthcare services Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff both verbally and in writing Physical Requirements/Working Conditions The work environment characteristics and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
