The Nurse Manager, Inpatient Oncology, oversees daily patient flow and clinical operations within a designated unit, focusing on oncology and hematology care. This role involves coordinating and supervising nursing and clinical assistant staff to ensure high-quality patient care and education. The Nurse Manager collaborates with the interdisciplinary team, delegates tasks appropriately, and provides clinical leadership to foster professional growth for both self and staff. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Collaboration and Multidisciplinary Engagement Actively participate in patient care and practice issues, leveraging diverse resources to optimize outcomes. Recognize the limits of clinical judgment and seek multidisciplinary collaboration, ensuring administrative and clinical continuity within ambulatory services. Engage in committees and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements through collaboration with leadership. Systems Thinking and Patient Flow Management Develop and implement strategies that address the needs of patients, families, caregivers, and the institution. Direct patient flow and staff allocation, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures. Monitor the care environment for safety and regulatory readiness, promoting the Nursing Department's Professional Practice Model, DFCI Strategic Plan, and Quality Plan. Personnel Management and Advocacy Support patient, family, and community care by aligning decisions with the organization's mission. Supervise and mentor nursing staff, overseeing hiring, orientation, and professional development. Ensures clinical practice standards are met and initiates performance counseling as needed. Encourage leadership potential and ensure staff training aligns with unit needs and Human Resource policies. Clinical Inquiry and Quality Improvement Enhance standards and guidelines through research and education, addressing practice questions to improve patient care. Lead unit-based quality improvement and safety initiatives, facilitating continuous process enhancements consistent with departmental goals. Clinical Judgment and Expertise Serve as a clinical expert, synthesizing data to make informed judgments. Participate in audits and the development of nursing standards and policies, ensuring evidence-based practice. Promote inclusion and diversity awareness, maintaining compliance with professional standards and licensure requirements. Facilitator of Learning and Professional Development Seek opportunities to teach and mentor, adapting educational objectives to meet the needs of patients and staff. Engage in professional organizations and continuing education, supporting and mentoring staff to participate in research and evidence-based practice. Function as a role model for communication and problem-solving, fostering an environment of shared governance. Special Working Conditions: Works in clinic and office settings with possible exposure to hazardous materials or infectious diseases through airborne transmission or contact with blood or body fluids. Personal Protective Equipment is available for use in these settings. May require regular travel to DFCI locations. Must have access to reliable transportation to travel to and from the various locations as needed. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required Registered Nurse with 3 years experience in health care, and entry level leadership. License/Certification/Registration Required Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and or New Hampshire as applicable. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in Nursing preferred or intent to enroll into program within 6 monhs of hire. Area of study preferred is Nursing Leadership. Oncology experience preferred Leadership, Oncology, or Research Nursing certification preferred (required to obtain within 2 years of employment). Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Critical thinking, collaboration and excellent communication skills. Clinical expertise within the care of the oncology and hematology patient population, including but not limited to management of patients receiving anticancer agents and blood products. Demonstrates understanding of special needs and behaviors of age groups of the population served. Pay Transparency Statement The hiring range is based on market pay structures, with individual salaries determined by factors such as business needs, market conditions, internal equity, and based on the candidate’s relevant experience, skills and qualifications. For union positions, the pay range is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). $170,000.00 - $182,500.00
