This role ensures optimal surgical outcomes by maintaining a sterile and safe operating environment, supporting the surgical team, monitoring patient conditions throughout the procedure, and facilitating anesthesia management. Additionally, the OR Nurse plays a critical role in patient education and recovery, empowering patients with the knowledge and support needed for a safe and successful post-operative experience.".   ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned) Pre-Operative Care: * Collaborate with the surgical team to prepare for scheduled procedures by reviewing surgical plans and patient charts. * Conduct pre-operative assessments, including verifying patient identity, surgical site, and medical history. * Provide patient education on pre- and post-surgical expectations, procedures, and recovery instructions. * Assist with positioning the patient and applying appropriate surgical prep solutions. Intra-Operative Care: * Maintain a sterile environment in the operating room and monitor adherence to aseptic techniques. * Assist the surgeon by anticipating and providing necessary instruments, sutures, and supplies. * Monitor the patient’s vital signs and respond promptly to changes in condition. * Operate and troubleshoot OR equipment, ensuring all devices function properly during the procedure. * Document surgical activities, including time-out procedures, instrument counts, and medications administered. Post-Operative Care: * Assist with the safe transfer of patients to the recovery area and provide a detailed handoff to the post-operative team. * Monitor patients for signs of complications and respond appropriately to medical emergencies. * Ensure the proper disposal of biohazard materials and sterilization of instruments and equipment. Compliance and Safety: * Adhere to AAAASF, OSHA, and HIPAA standards, ensuring all surgical procedures meet regulatory requirements. * Conduct surgical counts (sponges, instruments) to ensure no retained items. * Participate in surgical safety checklists and time-out protocols to prevent errors. * Maintain knowledge of emergency procedures, including the use of crash carts and defibrillators.       Team Collaboration and Leadership: * Work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and surgical technicians to ensure seamless teamwork during procedures. * Mentor and guide junior staff, including circulating and scrub nurses. * Participate in team debriefings and provide feedback to enhance surgical outcomes and team efficiency.  Equipment and Supply Management: * Verify the availability and functionality of surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies. * Assist in the selection and procurement of surgical supplies and equipment as needed. * Perform inventory checks to ensure adequate stock levels and proper storage of materials.   QUALIFICATIONS     EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE * Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program. * Minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a OR Nurse (RN), with at least 1-2 years of experience in a surgical nurse role, preferably in a plastic surgery, dermatology, or cosmetic surgery setting. * Experience with plastic surgery procedures, such as facelifts, breast augmentations, liposuction, and rhinoplasty is highly preferred.   CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES * Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment. * Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. * Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification may be required, depending on the clinical setting. * Certification in plastic surgery nursing may be advantageous.   SKILLS/ABILITIES * Strong knowledge of maintaining a sterile environment to prevent infection during surgeries. * Ability to anticipate needs, respond quickly to complications, and make effective decisions during surgery. * Skill in handling surgical instruments, equipment, and understanding of surgical procedures. * Proficiency in monitoring vital signs, anesthesia levels, and patient condition during surgery. * Ability to work effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and surgical teams to ensure smooth operations. * Clear communication with the surgical team and families, especially in high-pressure situations.   KEY MEASURES OF SUCCESS In this role, your success will be measured by your ability to effectively manage and improve patient care, ensuring high levels of patient satisfaction and operational efficiency within the clinic. Key measures of success include: * Patient Satisfaction Score  * Clinical Quality    PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and to talk and hear.  Employees may be occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch.  Employees must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds along with pushing and pulling on higher BMI patients.
