Description

Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Program Manager, Calgary Pain Program, Alberta Health Services, the casual Nurse Practitioner (NP) works independently and within their advanced nursing scope of practice to provide expert consultation as part of the Chronic Pain Consult Service (CPCS) team. The CPCS provides medication and pain management suggestions for patients within the four adult acute care sites in the Calgary area who have a history of chronic non-cancer pain, are experiencing acute-on-chronic non-cancer pain, or have a medical condition that is developing into chronic non-cancer pain; work together as part of a multidisciplinary team at the Chronic Pain Centre (CPC) located at Richmond Road Diagnostic Treatment Centre to provide support for family physicians and assistance to clients in the management of their chronic neuromusculoskeletal and headache pain; and provides telephone advice to primary care providers via Specialist Link. Approximately 80-90% of time will be allocated to the provision of chronic pain assessment and management for patients at the acute hospital sites and the CPC. In addition to the clinical focus, the NPs design, deliver, and evaluate education sessions for medical and nursing students, staff, and patients. The CPCS NPs are expert pain clinicians who incorporate clinical practice, education, consultation, research, and leadership within the service delivery area. The NP works autonomously within the broader inter-professional pain program team.
