Your Opportunity:
The Calgary Pain Program is seeking a dynamic and skilled Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join the Chronic Pain Consult Service (CPCS) team. Reporting to the Program Manager, the NP will work independently within their advanced nursing scope of practice to deliver expert consultation and care for patients with complex chronic non-cancer pain across Calgary’s four adult acute care sites. The CPCS provides in-hospital consultation and pain management recommendations for patients who have a history of chronic pain, are experiencing acute-on-chronic pain, or are at risk of developing chronic pain due to a medical condition. The CPCS also provides telephone advice to primary care providers through Specialist Link. Our NP led service works together as a strong, supportive and tight knit team who engage in continuous learning and have open communication (including daily huddles). A comprehensive orientation and mentorship program ensures a supportive and educational environment for team members and learners. Our service provides an excellent learning environment with support from physicians and pharmacy resources. Approximately 80-90% of time will be allocated to the provision of chronic pain assessment and management for patients at the acute hospital sites. In addition to the clinical focus, the NPs design, deliver, and evaluate education sessions for medical and nursing students, staff, and patients. The CPCS NPs are expert pain clinicians who incorporate clinical practice, education, consultation, research, and leadership within the service delivery area. This position is part of Primary Care Alberta. By applying on this posting, if you are the successful candidate, you agree to and will become an employee of Primary Care Alberta.
