Your Opportunity:
An exciting opportunity to co-develop and deliver an advanced Pediatric Burns and Wound Care Program at the Alberta Children’s Hospital. Reporting to the Patient Care Manager and Unit Manager, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) will provide leadership and promote excellence in pediatric, family-centered nursing care through the five main role components of expert practice, education, consultation/ collaboration, research, and leadership/change agent. They assume a leadership role in case management, triaging, medical care provision, prescribing, and clinic operation and development. The NP is a member of the ACH Pediatric Burns and Wound Care clinical team, working with the Medical Director, plastic surgeons, anesthesiologists, pediatricians, nurses, therapy assistants, child life specialists, social work and allied health rehab clinicians to provide evidence-based burn and wound management. The NP collaborates to facilitate program development and implementation in alignment with the American Burn Association standards. The care provided is organized and comprehensive in a defined pathway to support the best outcomes. This NP integrates research into practice and creates, utilizes, and/or disseminates new knowledge. In practice this NP role includes but is not limited to diagnosing and managing pediatric burn presentations, promoting health and preventing illness/injury, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and other therapies and performing procedures, interventions and/or treatments for children and youth with burns and wounds. Training and education will be provided to the suitable candidate.

As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients. Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems.
