Mayo Clinic’s Division of Plastic Surgery is looking for a nurse practitioner or physician assistant to work collaboratively with a team of surgeons, fellows/residents, nurses and other allied health staff to provide all aspects of high quality care for surgical patients in the outpatient clinical setting. The NP/PA plays a key role in the preoperative and postoperative management of surgical patients in Plastic Surgery subspecialties including breast reconstruction, craniofacial surgery, lymphedema, cosmetic surgery, and gender-afirming/transgender care. While this position has a primary focus in breast reconstruction, gender-afirming care, and lymphedema, the NP/PA may be cross-trained to provide coverage in the other subspecialties as needed. The Plastic Surgery practice currently has 16 surgeons and 10 NP/PA staff. The NP/PA’s responsibilities focus on pre & postoperative assessment, coordination of patient care, and patient management in collaboration with a multidisiplinary team in breast and melanoma surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, TISCC, and lymphedema clinic. Duties include but are not limited to comprehensive physical assessment, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the clinic setting as delegated by the supervising surgeon. Educating and counseling patients and their families is a core skill in this practice. A high level of autonomy is expected.
