JOB OBJECTIVES

We are currently seeking applicants for a Registered Nurse Prescriber who is interested in joining Nua Healthcare’s Clinical Department.
Nua Healthcare’s multidisciplinary team has a broad range of clinical professionals and therapists such as Clinical Directors, Consultant Psychiatrists, Nurses from a psychiatric, intellectual disability and general trained background, Advanced Nurse Prescribers, Nurse Prescribers, Clinical Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Behaviour Specialists, Dietitians, Psychotherapists, amongst many others who support our care pathways across Ireland.

This will include the following:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registration in the Nurse Prescribers Division of the Nurses Register of Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of standards and legislation relevant to the area.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience of nursing prescribing in an ID and/or MH service.

SKILLS:

  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent clinical skills using a biopsychosocial perspective.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to deliver nursing input at multidisciplinary team meeting(s), ensuring high quality care.

Responsibilities

MAIN DUTIES

  • Plan and deliver Nurse led clinics and Interventions to individuals with complex needs.
  • Prescribe and monitor medication for the management of complex mental health needs with supervision from the Consultant Psychiatrists.
  • The registered nurse prescriber will use prescriptive authority in a safe and effective manner in line with their training, policy, and the Practice Standards and Guidelines for Nurses and Midwives with Prescriptive Authority (4th Edition) (2019).
  • Complete and oversee medication treatment plans in conjunction with Consultant Psychiatrist and in line with best practice guidelines.
  • Provide Clinical oversight to nursing team and participate in Clinical Decision Making

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute to the assessment of specific complex mental health needs within the multidisciplinary team and refer to the Decision-making Framework for Nurse and Midwife Prescribing when prescribing.
  • Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of the Nua’s policies and procedures, including adherence to Nua’s Policy on Nurse Medicinal Product Prescribing
  • Have strong organisational/time management skills, able to manage competing and conflicting demands.
  • Review, monitor and evaluate medication treatment plans (designed by the Psychiatry team).
  • Review PRN protocols & mental health relapse plans/ specific health management plans as required.
  • Adhere to the NMBI’s Practice Standards and Guidelines for Nurses and Midwives with Prescriptive Authority (4th Edition)
  • Be accountable in keeping up to date with advances in prescribing and clinical practice.
