JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director of Client Services, the Nurse Supervisor is responsible and accountable for the overall health care management within the designated departments; Children’s, Specialized residential, Supported Housing and Apartment Living. The Nurse Supervisor will provide nursing knowledge, skills, client assessment, support, training of staff (Care Aides) and hands on care. In performing these roles, the Nurse Supervisor will adhere to Continuing Care -Residential Care Standards, the Community Care Facility Licensing Act-Children/Adult Regulation, Nurse professional code of ethics, BCCNM College practice and standards and VRS policy and procedures and other regulations.
Responsibilities include functioning as part of the management team in relation to supervision of staff, liaison/communication with clients, client families, and associated health care agencies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Must possess demonstrated skills in being able to formulate comprehensive, quality-assured client care programs and strategies.
· Must possess demonstrated skills in being able to manage, direct, advise and instruct support staff in the execution of quality care to resident.

· Must have demonstrated skills to administer all elements of a program involving clients, personnel, physical plant and properties, record-keeping and other requirements as determined by the Employer, its funding/licensing agents, client families, social agencies and others.

  • Must pass a Criminal Records Check for the vulnerable sector.

  • Must hold a valid BC driver license and car
  • Current basic cardiac life support certification

EDUCATION:

  • Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing LPN registrant
  • Must have an active LPN licence in good standing

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience supervising in a related health care field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Responsibilities

· Develops, implements, evaluates client service policies and procedures, nursing standards of practice as directed by the Director of Client Services.
· Participate in the delivery of client care through assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating client care
· Supervises and assists staff in performing client care such as personal care, administration of medications, application of treatments, performance of client assessments and feeding
· Collaborating with Site Supervisors to provide leadership, coaching and counselling, training, evaluating and disciplining staff to ensure the quality and efficiency of client care
· Encourages and supports clients in attaining recreational, leisure and educational goas, and other social support needs (ISP)
· Provides input into the development and implementation of client care protocols and procedures, and continuous quality improvement objectives
· Initiate client care conferences (as required) and presents nursing assessments;
recommends intervention and participates in the development of the care plan
· Develops necessary documentation and reporting systems to maintain accurate records and reflect client needs.
Maintains and updates client records such as nursing assessment records (monthly clinical records such as vital signs, client specific protocols, Accuro EMR banners, EMR progress notes), client care plans and medication administration records
Maintains liaison with the Ministry, CLBC, Case Manager, Health Department Licensing Consultants, professional organizations, and other agencies.
· Participates as a member of the management teams by attending meetings, supporting continuous quality improvement objectives, and serving on Committees as required.
· Schedules or assists or directs client activities such as diagnostic procedures and appointments. Attend client’s appointments as needed and document if necessary
· Ensures that the site’s operations comply with all required Health and Safety and other government standards and regulations and maintains a professional relationship with these agencies.
· Maintains a current knowledge of, and complies with all, Society, Governmental, and Licensing’s policies and procedures as required.
· Performs other related duties as required.
