About the unit 7 Center is one of the units within the Women's Health Service Line at Butterworth Hospital. It is a 20-bed unit Women's unit where many of the patients are postpartum mothers and infants, and some general OB/GYN and Women's Health patients. Common diagnosis seen on 7 Center are hypertension disorders or preeclampsia, diabetes, gynecological surgical patients, postpartum medical readmissions, overflow medical/surgical women, and also care for newborns who might require blood sugar monitoring, antibiotics, phototherapy, or feeding assistance. Scope of work We provide couplet care, where we care for mom and baby together, as well as some general Women's Health and GYN patients. The Nurse Tech acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider. Performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team. As a nurse tech on the unit, you will provide patient care which can include taking vital signs, transportation, collaborating with the RN, blood sugar checks, ADLs and more. Nurse techs also get the unique experience of working in the nursery where they care for newborns. Nurse techs will learn to take baby vitals, assist with circumcisions, do different required testing for newborns which includes hearing screen and car seat testing, performing blood sugars and some lab collections.
