About the role The fixed term 12-month full-time role of Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) in the Palliative Care ward works within the Mission and Mission in Action of HammondCare to use skills and knowledge in leadership, management and clinical practice in consultation with a multidisciplinary team to achieve optimal health in a patient-focused service. You will be joining a high-performing and passionate team that truly believes in a patient-centric approach to care. Essence of the role You will be in charge of the unit, team and all aspects of the healthcare environment and takes overall responsibility for the standard of nursing care and clinical practice that are evidence-based and reflect current practice The NUM is pivotal to the coordination of patient care, unit management and leadership of the professions of nursing to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care and efficient use of resources Be a clinical role model for all nurses working on the unit You will manage complaints and critical incidents related to the service in conjunction with Director of Nursing Facilitate patient flow to ensure timely admission, transfer and discharge of patients Actively participate in the development and maintenance of professional and clinical standards of practice of the nursing and administrative team Act as a clinical resource person by assisting, advising and supporting all staff and students in all aspects of the performance of their duties Participate in strategic and business planning for their service Participate in budget planning, monitoring and reporting of unit financial status About you NSW Registered Nurse – List A Relevant clinical and management experience in a related speciality Tertiary qualifications in management or relevant work experience or combination of study and work experience Knowledge of the management and delivery of healthcare services Demonstrated understanding of Work Health Safety issues and Equal Employment Opportunity Demonstrated ability to evaluate clinical services and manage change Experience managing a team of skilled professionals A current driver’s licence and safe driving record Strong administrative and computer skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Empathy and patience.
