    About The Role
    Macquarie University Health has an exciting new position available for an experienced Nursing Unit Manager (NUM), to lead operating services for the in Urology and Robotic Services. Reporting to the Associate Director of Perioperative Services, you will be responsible for the provision of all day-to-day processes, operations and patient services of the Urology and Robotic Services. This includes managing the resources and staff within the unit by providing high levels of mentorship and support to nurses, all in a pursuit of achieving excellence in nursing practices and patient care.
    The role ensures a quality, evidence-based practice and a cost-effective service are delivered within a safe patient and team environment.

Key Accountabilities of the role include (not limited to):

  • Coordinate the efficient use of operating sessions in collaboration with the Nurse Manager, Perioperative Services, Theatre Floor Nurse Unit Manager, Evening Floor Coordinator, After Hours Manager, Theatre Scheduler, Anaesthetists and Surgeons
  • Manage the clinical processes within the service to achieve and maintain optimal levels of efficiency in clinical practice & ensure a culture of patient advocacy in the provision of care
  • Maintain open and effective communication with other Nurse Unit Managers, Evening Floor Coordinator, After Hours Manager, Theatre Scheduler, Anaesthetists, and Surgeons
  • Act as a role model within and external to the organisation by providing professional leadership and upholding the values of MQ Health and the Nursing profession
  • Promote quality activities and coordinate quality improvement projects within the department & manage critical incidents.

How to Apply

  • Previous Nurse Unit Manager experience within Urology and Robotics
  • Demonstrated management skills with ability to take initiative in resolving issues and problems within surgical theatre settings.
  • Effective stakeholder management skills, ensuring that multiple people with different agendas are working efficiently to the same outcome.
  • Flexibility and adaptiveness to changing circumstances whilst managing priority cases and achieving objectives.
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills across multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to motivate your team through difficult situations and provide effective training and development to help expand their skills.
  • Knowledge of contemporary nursing and health care trends, issues and directions
  • Evidence of professional development commensurate with the level of autonomy and authority expected of the position.
  • Strong commitment to quality improvement and takes an active role in the ISO Certification process to meet ISO9001 standards incorporating Core Standards for Safety and Quality and willingness to initiate and contribute to quality activities.

Note: This position requires you to comply with Immunisation Screening in line with Macquarie University Health requirements and Accreditation with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA). This position also requires a current and valid Working with Children Check Clearance (WWCC) for NSW. You will also have to satisfy MQ Health that you meet all background checks (including criminal history check completed as part of our pre-employment checks process)
