POSITION OVERVIEW

The Nursery Chef is responsible for planning, preparing, and presenting nutritious, engaging meals for children aged 0–5 in line with dietary, cultural, and allergy guidelines. This role also ensures exceptional standards of hygiene, safety, and compliance with food industry regulations.

EXPERIENCE

  • Proven experience as a Chef or in a similar culinary role within the hospitality or restaurant industry.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team effectively.
  • Extensive knowledge of food preparation techniques, cooking methods, and presentation styles.
  • Familiarity with food safety regulations and best practices.
  • Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail in both cooking and presentation.
  • Previous experience supervising kitchen staff is highly desirable.
  • A passion for culinary arts and an eagerness to create memorable dining experiences for guests.

Responsibilities

· Prepare and cook healthy, balanced meals and snacks—such as breakfast, lunch, and teatime—tailored to young children’s nutritional needs.
· Adapt menus to manage individual dietary requirements, allergies, and cultural preferences.
· Maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic environment, adhering to health and safety, COSHH, and food hygiene regulations.
· Manage kitchen inventory: stock control, food ordering, suppliers liaison, and stock rotation (FIFO).
· Record and monitor kitchen operations: temperature checks, cleaning logs, risk assessments, “Safer Food Better Business” documentation, etc.
· Deliver meals to children’s rooms on schedule, and may occasionally supervise mealtimes or engage children during meal prep.
· Collaborate with nursery staff, parents, and management regarding menus, dietary needs, and complaints.
· Participate in inspections, training, and team meetings—potentially outside core hours.
· Be a positive role model, uphold nursery policies, and contribute to an inclusive, welcoming atmosphere.
