KNOWLEDGE

  • In-depth knowledge of EYFS and safeguarding procedures.

  • Proven leadership experience in a nursery or early years setting.
  • Experience in staff supervision and training.
  • Experience working with children with additional needs.
  • Experience working in partnership with parents and child settling in rotas
Responsibilities

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

To support the Nursery Manager in the effective day to day running of the nursery, ensuring a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment where every child can thrive. The Deputy Manager plays a vital leadership role in guiding staff, upholding high standards of care and education, and supporting each child’s individual learning and development journey.

MAIN DUTIES:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Deputy Manager to join our nursery, creating a safe, nurturing, and enjoyable environment to assist children in settling and fostering their developmental growth.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE DEPUTY MANAGER

  • As Deputy Manager, you will play a vital leadership role in supporting the effective day-to-day running of the nursery. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Assisting in the overall management and organisation of the nursery, ensuring high standards of care and education are consistently maintained.
  • Leading and mentoring the Third in Charge, Room Leaders, and junior staff to foster a collaborative and high-performing team.
  • Building strong, professional partnerships with parents and carers to support children’s development and well-being.
  • Overseeing the planning and delivery of engaging, age-appropriate indoor and outdoor learning environments.
  • Managing staff rotas and always ensuring compliance with staff-to-child ratios.
  • Delegating responsibilities effectively to ensure smooth and efficient room operations.
  • Supporting the Manager with staff supervision, including peer observations and audits of practice.
  • Ensuring classroom displays are purposeful and well-maintained, and that regular health and safety checks are carried out.
  • Creating and updating individual care plans for children with specific needs, in collaboration with relevant professionals and families.
  • Coordinating nursery events, trips, and local outings to enrich the children’s learning experiences.
  • Organising and participating in staff meetings, open days, and other nursery-wide events.
  • Acting as the Manager’s deputy in their absence, ensuring continuity of leadership and decision-making.
  • Supporting stakeholder engagement and maintaining positive external relationships.
  • Undertaking risk assessments and ensuring all policies and procedures are followed.
  • Carrying out any additional duties as directed by the Manager to support the smooth running of the nursery.
