Job Description

WE ARE CURRENTLY SEEKING TO FILL AN EXISTING VACANCY ON OUR TEAM.

We are seeking a full-time Nursery Manager to lead our team at PRT Quesnel in British Columbia. As a key part of the most innovative conifer seedling producer in the industry, you’ll work with a focus on our people, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement. You’ll be responsible for overseeing all aspects of greenhouse and outdoor seedling production that has the capacity to produce 18 M seedlings annually. Your role includes financial management, leading a core team of 15 staff and an additional 30 seasonal staff at various key growing cycles. You’ll be responsible as well for ensuring strong customer relations, and site safety. Your leadership will be crucial in executing PRT’s strategy, which is rooted in our core values of stewardship and safeguarding our people, customers, assets, and environment.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE

We’re looking for a dedicated leader with a passion for horticulture and sustainable practices:

• A bachelor’s degree or diploma in horticulture, agriculture, or forestry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience in nursery or growing operations, with a proven track record of leadership and team management.
• Working knowledge of a seedling nursery/agricultural operations, equipment, irrigation, soil fertility, and pesticides.
• Strong team leadership and people management experience.
• Proficient in Excel, Word, and Outlook, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Customer-driven and oriented, with a strong work ethic and dedication to safety and excellence.

Additional Information

• Ensure adherence to organizational health and safety programs through routine management, review, and follow-up procedures
• Develop and prioritize proposals for capital expenditures and projects
• Manage and supervise container seedling production
• Implement crop and work plans
• Identify and assess crop damage, losses and reliability issues
• Perform root-cause analysis with nursery personnel and develop solutions
• Keep neat and accurate records
• Manage labor force
• Identify training needs
• Mentor, coach, and train nursery personnel
