Floor Nursery Manager is the lead management role at Purple Lion Day Nursery Buckhurst Hill. The role is ultimately responsible for the Nursery’s functionality and achievement of performance targets / standards and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. In the absence of the Area Manager the Nursery Manager will assume their responsibilities.
The post reports directly to the Area Manager.
EYFS / Quality and Practice
The Nursery Manager’s primary objective in respect of the children is to ensure that they enjoy stimulating and safe, play, educational and social experiences appropriate to their age and stage of development.
The Nursery Manager is responsible for liaising with OFSTED, Local Authority, Health & Safety and other childcare professionals in respect of all matters affecting the reputation and standing of Purple Lion Day Nurseries. They will act as the lead contact with the Primary School Head Person / Senior Management to ensure a smooth socio-educational transition for the Nursery children.
Across the Purple Lion Day Nursery (Buckhurst Hill), the Nursery Manager is accountable to OFSTED for ensuring that at all times the required number of qualified staff are in attendance and are deployed in compliance with the defined OFSTED staff / child ratios for each age group. To meet these requirements the Nursery Manager may at their discretion either utilise available Bank staff, extend with their employees’ agreement the working hours of staff currently on duty or move appropriate staff between settings.
In emergency situations the Nursery Manager themselves will provide the necessary cover for certain members of the staff (Baby Room Manager or Room Leaders)
The Nursery Manager is responsible for planning the forward child place availability and optimising the intake to maximise occupancy and income.
The Nursery Manager must approve all formal / written communications. Important parental concerns including all those that may require reference to the LADO or OFSTED or in any respect may have a potentially negative effect of the reputation and status of Purple Lion Day Nurseries are the specific responsibility of the Nursery Manager and should not be handled by any other members of staff.
It is the Nursery Manager’s duty to listen appropriately and professionally to parent’s serious concerns, questions and complaints ensuring wherever possible a speedy resolution that meets both legal and regulatory requirements and is satisfactory to the customer.
The Nursery Manager must at all times be prepared for and appropriately respond to inspection by OFSTED, Local Authority Officers and other regulatory bodies.
The Nursery Manager will ensure that the EYFS programme is co-ordinated throughout the Nursery.
The Nursery Manager must ensure that the other managers, room leaders and nursery practitioners are managing EYFS delivery quality and performance to meet an OFSTED ‘Outstanding’ rating.
It is a key responsibility of the Nursery Manager to ensure that the Nursery works within the Special Needs policy, practice and Government framework to promote the inclusion of children with special needs.
It is the Nursery Manager’s duty to safeguard, maintain and update all personal staff personal details and contacts, holidays, sickness, performance, training and disciplinary records.
Marketing
For the parents the Manager will represent the managerial face of the Nursery. Nursery Manager will lead on developing partnership with parents / carers and in liaison with the Area Manager plan and mount events that develop that partnership for the benefit of the children.
The Nursery Manager will act as the primary Nursery salesperson, promoting the Nursery to current and prospective parents.
The Nursery Manager is required to communicate effectively with parents both personally and impersonally using events, parent meetings and the media including a monthly Nursery Newsletter, notice board and e-mail announcements.
Finance
The Nursery Manager is ultimately responsible for the effective leadership, management and operational performance of the Nursery.
In advance of the end of month payroll deadline and using the daily signing in / out sheets the Manager will calculate hours worked for every Purple Lion Day Nurseries employee and pass the data to the Company Accountant in order to make timely end of month salary payments.
In liaison with the Purple Lion Day Nurseries accounts company they will ensure correct and timely invoicing and debt collection.
Although the Nursery Manager shares the task of opening and closing the main Nursery & Church Hall with that setting’s other DSL the Nursery Manager remains the primary key holder and takes ultimate responsibility for timely opening and secure closing across the two settings.
Healty&Safety / Safeguarding
The Manager takes ultimate responsibility for the safety of Purple Lion Day Nurseries children and staff both on and off the Company premises. They also have a duty of care to parent / carers and other visitors to Company premises.
It is the Nursery Manager responsibility to ensure that all staff understand the vital importance of diligently and professionally implementing statutory, regulatory and Company Safeguarding policies and procedures. Without giving prior warning to the other Managers, their staff or visitors the Nursery Manager will conduct quarterly fire / evacuation drills to ensure that all staff are conversant with and diligently perform agreed procedure.
Whilst the Directors are responsible for the funding and provision of equipment including first aid, the Nursery Manager is responsible for ensuring the availability and suitability of that equipment in terms of the likely needs in a nursery setting. In liaison with the Area Manager the Nursery Manager is responsible for ensuring that sufficient staff are appropriately trained and qualified in delivering first aid and that a qualified member of staff accompanies all external trips / visits.
The Nursery Manager will convey to the Area Manager as soon as possible all site problems that constitute a risk and in the intervening period before the cause of the risk is totally resolved take reasonable precautions to ensure that those at risk are made aware of its existence and given guidance in ways to avoid it plus taking all reasonable means to separate the cause and those in danger of encountering it.
The Nursery Manager will review their Manager’s and Room Leaders daily risk assessments on a weekly basis. In liaison with the setting’s other Managers and Room Leaders, the Nursery Manager will ensure that all external trips are fully risk assessed and signed off by either. The Nursery Manager is charged with setting and maintaining the highest standards of hygiene and cleanliness throughout the Nursery. It is the Nursery Manager ultimate responsibility to set policy and ensure adherence to attending to children’s allergic and specific health conditions and implementing the necessary preventative / corrective procedures.
