Rainstick is a venture-backed startup advancing the use of bioelectric field treatment in agriculture and ecological restoration. Our research spans native flora, canola, and tomato crops, with active field and lab trials in with major global companies.
We are seeking an intermediate-level Nursery Worker/Lab Technician to support treatment, preparation, and monitoring workflows across seeds and seedlings. The role includes hands-on lab work, routine protocol execution, and contribution to experimental operations in both native and crop plant contexts.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 1–3 years experience in a nursery, laboratory, or agtech research environment
  • Demonstrated reliability in hands-on, process-based technical work
  • Familiarity with plant propagation or seed biology, agar preparation
  • Basic computer literacy and ability to follow digital protocols
  • Willingness to work full-time onsite in Cairns

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Exposure to plant propagation or seed pre-treatment techniques
  • Ability to work within structured data capture systems
  • Comfortable supporting multiple concurrent trials with precision

Responsibilities
  • Support hydropriming, germination, transplanting, and basic plant care
  • Record data accurately using standard forms or lab software
  • Prepare seed batches for trials, including labelling, sorting and quality control
  • Maintain a tidy, functional lab environment and manage consumables inventory
  • Assist with photography, imaging, and growth documentation as required
  • Work across multiple species including native plants, canola, and tomatoes
  • Prepare, clean and maintain glassware, agar plates, and growth media
  • Run electric field treatments on seeds using standardised equipment and protocols
