QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Successful completion of UPMC nursing assistant training program.
  • Knowledge of body mechanics and transfer techniques.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.LICENSURE, CERTIFICATIONS, AND CLEARANCES:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities
  • Provides direct patient care including bathing, feeding, toileting, ambulating, and transporting.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and organized environment; performs safety checks and equipment cleaning. Acquires and distributes supplies and equipment; stocks rooms and unit areas.
  • Delivers nourishments, fills water pitchers, and distributes patient mail.
  • Performs core nursing assistant tasks: ADLs, vital signs, blood glucose, weights, I&O, Foley care, telemetry monitor application, and specimen collection.
  • Applies, monitors, and removes restraints per protocol; provides diversional activities to reduce restraint use.
  • Responds to call lights, phones, and emergent situations within scope.
  • Documents care and completes clerical duties as needed. Communicates effectively with the healthcare team; reports patient status changes to RN.
  • Demonstrates cultural sensitivity, professionalism, and commitment to patient safety. Participates in self-assessment, seeks feedback, and identifies learning needs.
  • Reports equipment malfunctions and supports departmental efficiency. Provides one-on-one companionship/supervision when required.
  • Adheres strictly to safety, infection control, and confidentiality policies. Access to medications is limited to distribution to nursing staff.
