UPMC Hamot Women's Hospital is hiring a Nursing Assistant to join our Pediatrics unit! Apply now to join a unit with great teamwork and a diverse patient population! This position is full-time, rotating day/night shifts. Title and Salary will be determined based upon education and experience. Responsibilities: Provides direct patient care under RN direction, including bathing, feeding, toileting, ambulating, and transporting. Maintains a clean, safe, and organized environment to support patient recovery. Performs safety checks and ensures equipment is clean and properly stored. Acquires, distributes, and stocks supplies and equipment to support care delivery. Delivers nourishments, fills water pitchers, and distributes mail. Performs core nursing assistant tasks: vital signs, blood glucose, weights, I&O, specimen collection, Foley care, telemetry monitor application, and restraint management. Reports patient status changes and provides feedback to RN. Offers companionship and one-on-one supervision as needed. Responds appropriately to emergent situations within scope of role. Supports restraint reduction through diversional activities. Documents care and completes clerical tasks per department procedures. Complies with safety protocols, including standard precautions and bloodborne pathogen policies. Participates in unit activities: answering call lights, phones, passing trays, and transporting patients. Communicates effectively with healthcare team and maintains professional relationships. Demonstrates cultural sensitivity and awareness of workplace safety and professional behavior. Accepts feedback constructively and seeks opportunities for learning and improvement. Suggests and supports departmental changes and takes ownership of assignments. Reports equipment issues and uses effective communication strategies. Access to medications is limited to distribution to nurses. High school diploma or GED. Successful completion of UPMC nursing assistant training program. Knowledge of body mechanics and transfer techniques. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
