Description TITLE: Nurse Manager (NM) REPORTS TO: Clinical Director (Clin Dir) STATUS: Exempt JOB SUMMARY: The Nurse Manager (NM) is a member of the leadership team; and participates in the updates of the two Handbooks, Policies and Procedures. S/he directly supervises assigned nurses and techs, and works closely with those who prescribe and supply medications for our students. Strong organizational, documentation and communication skills are consistently demonstrated. The NM ensures high quality care by working with members of the recreation-residential counselors, education staff and therapists. PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS: 1. Ensures nursing assessments on all new students within 24 hours of admit; documents the nursing plan 2. Highlights allergies; safely sets-up medications and communicates essential info to staff 3. Delivers and accounts for all medications in compliance with regulations, policies and procedures 4. Explains, when requested, the benefits and side effects of each medication in use 5. Coordinates with legal guardians and medical personnel using approved consent forms 6. Schedules and monitors medical and dental interventions, coordinating office and lab visits 7. Manages Schedule II medications following approved standards to ensure accountability shift to shift. 8. Communicates medical care and medication changes with stakeholders in a timely fashion 9. Ensures delivery and accountability preparation of medications for on and off campus use, and for 14 days for post discharge students 10. Responds promptly to inquiries from approved persons with responsible information 11. Coordinates with the Clin Dir, prescribers, et al to keep treatment plans accurately updated with accurate med facts 12. Provides training to new and current staff on basic first aid, medical, medication and psychiatric nursing practices and other trainings as requested. 13. Ensures designated medical area is well-stocked, orderly and clean and properly secured on a frequent basis 14. Works closely with the HR Dir and Fin Dir to achieve position control and a robust Nurse-on-Call schedule 15. Creates, teaches and maintains a campus-wide effective Infection Control Plan CORE COMPETENCIES: 1. Completes work thoroughly, promptly and efficiently; managing multiple tasks as necessary 2. Maintains confidentiality and displays professionalism as a representative of LRA in all locations 9. Follows all safety regulations and does not hesitate to suggest changes that might improve safety 10. Pursues continuous professional growth in order to enhance both student and personal performance 11. Demonstrates an understanding of the LRA Positive Behavior Plan by consistently using it with students 12. Uses IEP, ISP and BIP objectives when planning instructional, recreation and residential activities 13. Completes necessary documentation within times specified in policies and procedures 14. Reviews critical incidents and participates in root-cause analysis as requested by the Compliance Officer 15. Greets all visitors, parents and reviewers with a smile and the utmost respect. 16. Models ethical behavior when resolving misunderstandings, disagreements and conflicts. 17. Contributes to long-term planning; promotes collection of Outcome data; and supports CQI initiatives. 18. Allocates resources efficiently; manages budgets (MEC members); reports variances in MOR meetings. 19. Responds positively to a supervisor's reasonable request to perform other duties. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS a. Associate degree in Nursing with 5 years of experience prefer bachelor’s degree in nursing b. Valid RN license for Utah c. Basic Life Support certification d. Effective oral and written communication skills. e. Knowledge of human behavior, social interactions, and psychology is useful. f. Proficiency in telephone, computer, and face-to-face customer service skills. g. Prefer 2 years’ experience supervising staff h. Basic knowledge of electronic medical record (EMR) and interoffice systems, basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: A. Continuously uses hands for simple and firm grasping and fine manipulation. B. Physically able to bend, stand, stoop, or sit for long periods of time. C.
