Nursing Officer | PATH * Commencement: Immediate start  * Location: Port Moresby, PNG at the Port Moresby General Hospital * Duration: Up to December 2026 * Open to PNG Citizens    About the Program  The PNG Australia Transition to Health (PATH) is a six-year (2020-2026) health sector program funded by the Australian Government under the Papua New Guinea – Australia Partnership for Development. PATH works with the PNG Government to improve coverage and quality of health services for the people of PNG through effective, equitable, efficient, and inclusive interventions.  Guided by the National Department of Health (NDoH), Provincial Health Authorities (PHAs) and the Bougainville Department of Health (BDoH) are responsible for the delivery of health services across PNG. PATH assists NDoH, PHAs and BDoH to strengthen systems for health service delivery targeting infectious diseases, and reproductive, maternal, newborn child and adolescent health, with a focus on promoting women’s leadership. PATH’s end of investment outcomes (EOIO) are:  1. PHA’s more able to lead provincial health reform and manage effective, efficient, equitable and quality essential health services in selected provinces.  2. DFAT funded health services are demonstrating efficient and effective models of service delivery, influencing Provincial Health Authority (PHA) performance; and building sustainability by transitioning to PHA management in selected provinces.  PATH’s intermediate outcome (IO’s) are: PHA Leadership, Enhanced GEDSI Capacity and Essential Health Services.  PATH is a locally led, adaptive, and politically informed program that seeks to maintain flexibility to respond to changing and local circumstances over the life of the program. About the Project PNG is a WHO high-burden country for TB, TB-HIV, and drug-resistant TB. Port Moresby General Hospital (PMGH) serves as an entry point for the diagnosis and treatment initiation in the NCD and surrounding region. Both the National Capital District (NCD) and Port Moresby General Hospital (PMGH) play a major role in the diagnosis and treatment of these children. PMGH also cares for families from other provinces including Central and Gulf Province, which further strains the resources and capacity at PMGH.   The Maternal-Child TBHIV Project (MCTHP) was established in 2016 to improve care and treatment of children and families affected by TB and HIV. To continue improving TB care for the family overall, the MCTHP is recruiting human resources. A Nursing Officer (NO) will assist in the overall operations, specifically patient care – to implement the MCTHP and support the Pediatric Society of Papua New Guinea (PSPNG).   About the Opportunity The Nursing Officer will support a team of clinicians including Pediatric HIV and TB Clinic. Nursing Officer will also conduct outreach to communities in NCD.   Key accountabilities and working relations * The Nursing Officer will be based at Port Moresby General Hospital and adhere to all rules and regulations. * The Nursing Officer reports to the Clinical Coordinator and Program Manager respectively. Key responsibilities The expected outcomes are:  1. Provide routine TB care for Child TB. This may include:  1. Inserting nasogastric tubes to collect gastric aspirates for TB testing 1. Providing routine TB care as directed by PMGH TB services 2. Perform fine-needle aspiration biopsy of lymph nodes 3. Ensure children and family members are recorded into TB registers and assist with reporting 4. Integrate TB Preventive Therapy (TPT) into routine activities 2. Provide routine HIV care at the Child PMGH HIV clinic. This may include: 1. Performing HIV tests 1. Counselling children and families affected by HIV 2. Coordinating TB services at the HIV clinic 3. Performing HIV tests Counselling children and families affected by HIV Coordinating TB services at the HIV clinic 4. Provide education, social and emotional support on TB/HIV and other health-related issues as guided by team leader. 5. Conduct data collection, recording and reporting 6. Collect and transport sputum and other samples for laboratory assessments as needed 7. Maintain strong and productive relationships with communities and community leaders, and with health and government stakeholders.   About You For applications to be considered, a response to the key selection criteria below must be provided.  * Bachelor of Nursing, Medicine or equivalent. * Registered with the PNG Nursing or Medical Council. * Sound background knowledge in Child TB and HIV policies and protocols highly desirable, though not required * Three years’ experience in managing patient care activities in children * Interpersonal skills and the ability to lead and work as part of a team. * Strong and demonstrated ability to lead effective community engagement. * Must be committed and dedicated to health service provision and patient care.   How to Apply * Please ensure to address the Key Selection Criteria (About You) in your cover letter, and submit your application online, along with your CV as a single document.  * Applications must be submitted personally by individuals only.
