Description JOB DESCRIPTION Title: NWTF Storyteller – Midwest Region Full-Time or Part-time: Fulltime Department: Communications Reports To: Managing Editor – Web and Media Employment Category: Salaried/Exempt Job Summary The National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) storyteller will convey the relevance of the NWTF’s mission to audiences in the hunting and outdoors space, as well as engaging other audiences that benefit from the work of the NWTF. Working with NWTF field staff, volunteers and partners, the NWTF storyteller will seek out and highlight stories that demonstrate the organization’s mission in action and how its work benefits wildlife, ecosystems, communities and people. Moreover, the storyteller will showcase how the NWTF’s efforts preserve the lifestyle and soul of the American hunter and demonstrate the life-changing power of the outdoors, with a primary focus on stories from the Midwest. Essential Functions Craft compelling stories/content for a variety of NWTF outlets, including: Magazines Newspapers Websites Press releases Social media E-newsletters Eblasts Photograph, correct and format images for magazine and web use Update content regularly and suggest areas of improvement on website Must be able to take projects from concept to completion with minimal guidance Edit content for consistency and accuracy by recognizing discrepancies in language, layout, formatting or NWTF branding Understand the NWTF’s mission and promote the NWTF to media, members and the public, as well as other employees Assist with planning of web editorial calendar Travel to NWTF conservation and education and outreach events for story coverage May be required to help in other departments as necessary Other duties as assigned Requirements Required Skills/Abilities: Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English or other related fields or equivalent experience Experience in writing for outdoor/hunting or other related industry Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills Basic knowledge of Adobe CS (HTML and photo editing) for use in developing content Knowledge of AP style or ability to learn Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, including Word and Excel Attention to detail and fact checking Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment Detail-oriented, creative, deadline-driven, team player who can adapt and learn quickly Must be able to travel to NWTF events for up to seven days at a time Must be legally able to handle firearms. Must have a valid driver’s license Preferred Qualifications: Deep understanding of hunting, conservation and relevant outdoor topics, with the ability to translate that knowledge into engaging, meaningful content that inspires NWTF’s audience A current hunter safety certification, or be obtained upon hiring Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times. Ability to stand and sit for extended periods of time Remote or Telecomm Status (select one): Position can work remotely.
