This Opportunity WSP is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Vice President, Traffic Engineering to join our team as NYC Traffic Design Lead in New York City, New York. This senior leader will grow our traffic design portfolio and capabilities, and support and manage complex and technical projects. The ideal candidate is an experienced Traffic Engineer who is innovative, results-oriented, and team focused. The NYC Traffic Design Lead will bring leadership and skills to grow our traffic design business, oversee project delivery and staff development, and provide technical assistance and guidance in engineering and design for our local, state and regional clients. Our ideal candidate has a proven track record of successfully delivering projects from initiation through operations and maintenance, with a strong focus on client satisfaction and technical excellence. This position will primarily support projects in New York and throughout the Northeastern U.S. Some project-related travel may be required. Your Impact The NYC Traffic Design Lead will: Develop and execute a strategic plan to grow WSP's traffic design practice in the specified regions. Lead traffic design business development and staff development, foster new client relationships and enhance existing client relationships. Develop a robust pipeline of traffic design opportunities and position WSP to pursue and win. Manage and support complex and technical projects related to Traffic Signal, Signing and Striping, Traffic Control, MOT, ITS, and modeling from initiation and planning through design, deployment, testing, monitoring, and operations and maintenance. Manage and support the delivery and execution of project scope, objectives, and requirements, ensuring close collaboration and alignment with clients and stakeholders; proactively identify, assess, and mitigate project risks and issues; ensure project deliverables meet high-quality standards and specified requirements; implement rigorous quality review processes, manage version controls, and track comments and resolutions; prepare and present comprehensive project progress statuses using reporting tools and dashboards; monitor and meet defined performance metrics, tracking budget, time, scope, and communication details to ensure projects meet schedule and client expectations. Lead and direct multi-disciplinary project teams, including internal staff, sub-consultants, contractors, and vendors. Foster a culture of trust, transparency, and accountability. Manage internal groups or outside vendors to identify, plan, negotiate contracts, deliver and monitor performance to client specifications. Coordinate with various internal and external partners, including cross-discipline and functional teams, government agencies (i.e., DOTs), and other stakeholders. Comfortably present complex technical and project information to diverse audiences, including executives, client teams, and public forums. Contribute to and lead the development of technical proposals, scopes of work, and budgeting for projected work. Foster technical development and mentoring of staff. Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Who You Are Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Traffic Engineering, or closely related discipline. 15+ years of relevant post education experience in engineering and traffic design. Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of New York, or another state and able to obtain reciprocity in New York State within 6 months of hire. Proven experience managing complex projects with budgets, schedules, and technical requirements. Experience with AutoCAD, Microstation, and other applicable design software packages. Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams, both internal and external. Evidence of leadership qualities and ability to network with clients and others in the field. Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills. Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines. Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Experience working on projects within New York, New Jersey, and/or the Northeast. Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies. Strong ability to quickly adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility to a variety of schedules and hours to meet business needs. Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
