Job Description Position Purpose: Performs a variety of work in the maintenance, repair, and operation of the potable water distribution system. The service work includes but is not limited to installation, repair, troubleshooting, and maintenance of distribution system components. Primary Duties/Responsibilities: Ability to conduct service and repairs such as valve and hydrant maintenance and replacement, reading and interpreting utility prints, understanding principles and components of water distribution systems. To test, repair and service major water distribution components such as valves, fire hydrants, and water mains. Rudimentary understanding and use of all conventional tools and meters to maintain, repair, and test components found in the water distribution system. Participates in an on-call rotation (approximately every 3rd week) to respond to emergencies and perform necessary overtime work, including participating in and assisting contractors with water main breaks and conducting utility mark-outs. Prepare reports to accurately describe conditions and work performed. Prepares appropriate service documentation for billing and completion of service orders. Maintain and develop good customer relations while promoting the image of the company. Work Environment: Required to work in confined spaces, climb ladders, scaffolding and stairs. Required to work in all weather conditions, both indoors and outdoors. Qualifications Education/Experience/Background: High School Diploma/GED is required. Distribution system or water treatment plant technician experience recommended. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Required adhering to customer and facility rules and regulations. Required Certification/Licenses/Training: Required to be trained or already trained as an distribution system technician. Water Distribution System Operator License (or ability to obtain within two years). Must also have a NJ driver's license. Additional Information Pay Range: $23.00 to $27.00 per hour.
