GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Budget division is seeking a Budget Analyst whose work will involve budget preparation and analysis work for the division at the Office of the Attorney General (OAG), a state agency with a large and increasingly complex budget of over $1.5 billion biennially. Work involves preparing, reviewing, and analyzing budgets and performance measures for assigned client divisions within the OAG, and in accordance with statutory, program, and appropriation authority. Comprehensive training in state government budget processes and best practices will be provided as needed to ensure the long-term success of the selected candidate. Duties may also include assisting in the preparation of the Biennial Operating Plan, Information Technology Detail and Advance Planning Document.

BUDGET ANALYST IV – ALL OF THE ABOVE QUALIFICATIONS FOR A BUDGET ANALYST III, PLUS:

  • Education/Experience: Bachelor’s Degree with one additional year of relevant full-time experience (4 years); or associate’s degree with 60 college credits hours with one additional year of experience (5 years); or one additional year of relevant full-time experience (7 years); may substitute a master’s degree from an accredited college or university for two years of the required experience

BUDGET ANALYST IV – ALL OF THE ABOVE PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR A BUDGET ANALYST III, PLUS:

  • Education/Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field with one additional year of relevant full-time experience (4 years); or bachelor’s degree with master’s degree and one additional year of State government experience (3 years); or one additional year of relevant full-time experience (8 years), including one additional year of State Government experience (4 years)
  • Highly Advanced Experience: Texas statewide accounting/budgetary systems: Centralized Accounting and Payroll/Personnel System (CAPPS); Uniform Statewide Accounting Systems (USAS); and Automated Budget Evaluation System of Texas (ABEST)
  • Highly Advanced Skills: Use of Microsoft Excel
