PROGRAM SUMMARY:

The Oak Haven Program provides temporary, safe, stable, trauma-informed and developmentally appropriate supportive care to infants and children, ages 0-17 who require emergency placement while their situation is assessed, and longer-term arrangements are made. The program aims to provide a home-like environment that buffers the stress associated with apprehension and transition and offers care and support commensurate with the developmental needs of each child.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Youth and Family Counsellor acts as a coordinator in the planning and delivery of therapeutic activities for high-risk infants, children & youth. The Youth and Family Counsellor works on a rotational shift schedule which includes day, evening, weekend and awake overnight shifts, ensuring 24/7 coverage for the youth in our care.
**Wood’s Homes pays a shift premium of three dollars ($3.00) per hour for all hours worked between 11:00 pm - 7:00 am.

• Implementing and maintaining a structured setting fostering the development of personal and social functioning for each client.
• Provides age and developmentally appropriate care for infants and young children, including diapering, feeding, bathing, and adherence to safe sleep practices.
• Ensures cleanliness and safety of infant care through tasks such as sterilizing bottles, cleaning toys, and maintaining hygiene supplies.
• Supports the physical and emotional well-being of infants using nurturing, trauma-informed approaches (e.g., soothing, rocking, comforting, attachment-building) and reports concerns promptly.
• Engages infants in age-appropriate sensory, motor, and early developmental activities (e.g., tummy time, visual tracking, sound response, early communication).
• Participates actively in supervisory meetings, team meetings, retreats, planning sessions, and designated in-service training.
• Is responsible for a variety of therapeutic responsibilities for children, youth, and their families. In combination with relevant case management, these responsibilities include attendance at case conferences, involvement in intervention strategies, consultations, school meetings, doctor’s appointments, family meetings, etc.
• Maintains the upkeep of the living space of the program and ensures the provision of a program that fits the requirements of the Licensing Department.
• Is responsible for a variety of tasks associated with program functioning including meal preparation, cleaning, and transportation of children, youth, and families.
• Executes other responsibilities as may be assigned.

Qualifications: We are looking for candidates who bring a combination of education and experience to the role:

• A diploma or undergraduate degree in the Social Sciences, Child and Youth Care, Social Work, or Nursing (professional registration may be required depending on your credential). Early Childhood Education and/or experience is considered an asset.
• Current CPR and First Aid certification.
• A valid Class 5 driver’s license (or Class 5 GDL) with $2 million liability insurance and a clean driver’s abstract (no more than 6 demerits).
• At least two years of related experience; experience working with young people is preferred.
• Experience working with Indigenous children, youth, families, and communities is considered a strong asset.
