Description PURPOSE STATEMENT A Scrub Tech assists with the nursing care and preparation of surgical patients. Also, assist surgeons in the operating room by passing instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies. Performs job functions according to specific age and/or developmental needs. Works under the supervision of the Circulating Registered Nurse in the operating room and/or Charge Nurse of the Unit. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Demonstrate ability to Scrub a Cesarean Section. Key expectations: responds appropriately to classifications STAT/ URGENT/ ADD ON; able to effectively and decisively pass instruments; understand and maintain a sterile field. Demonstrate the ability to assist providers with procedures in Labor and Delivery, Postpartum and Newborn Nursery. Demonstrate positive customer service relations. Routinely participate in Quality Improvement projects and encourage the department to continuously improve. Assist co-workers as needed/requested. Support the Medical Center’s Mission/Vision/Philosophy positively. Maintain regular and predictable attendance. Expected to serve as sitters as needed, following the successful completion of designated sitter education and training provided. Perform other essential duties as assigned. SHIFT REQUIREMENTS Intermittent coverage. Requirements EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS High school diploma or equivalent. Certification as surgical technician highly preferred. 2 years of hospital Operating Room Scrub experience is preferred. Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS required. Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work within the established policies, procedures and practices prescribed by the hospital/clinic. PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS Must be able to sit and stand intermittently 8 to 12 hours a day. Must be able to use standard office equipment, including the telephone and computer keyboard. Continuously works under pressure of near 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines. Continuously utilizes manual/bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing. Frequently stands, walks, sits and utilizes eye/hand coordination and color definition. Occasionally reaches above shoulder, regularly required to lift and/or carry up to 35 lbs. Occasionally walks on uneven surfaces.
