Salary Range:In accordance with Collective Agreement
Work Schedule/Shifts:10 month/ year (September to June) - as required
Mornings 6:45 am to 10:15 am / 6:45 am to 2:15 pm
Afternoons 2:45 pm to 6:15 pm / 10:45 am to 6:15pm
Effective Date: Immediately
Eligible Applicants looking to apply to the Extended Day Program Occasional DECE/RECE Pool are current DECE Occasional Staff and external applicants.
Current staff must apply to this posting to be considered for the Extended Day Program supply list and supply jobs. If successful, DECEs will be on both supply lists.
First Aid training will be provided on August 28th, if required.
Position Summary:
This position will require RECE/DECEs to provide both a professional and a high quality play based licensed before and after school program that meet the needs of children 3.8 to 12 years of age, as well as develop and implement a program based on the Ministry of Education How Does Learning Happen? Ontarios Pedagogy for the Early Years document while adhering to the regulations and mandates of the Child Care and Early Years Act.
This position may require RECE/DECEs to provide supply coverage in both the extended day before and after school program and the full day kindergarten program.

Key Responsibilities:

• This position will require the RECE/DECE to fulfill the duties and responsibilities in both the before or after school program as well as the Full Day Kindergarten core day;
• Knowledgeable on the pedagogical practices as they relate to early learning and child development and understands the Ministry of Education guidelines and curriculum documents How Does Learning Happen and The Kindergarten Program;
• Understand and comply with all requirements as per the Child Care and Early Years Act, Education Act and other applicable statutes/regulations;
• Must be familiar with the developmental needs of children ranging from ages 3.8 years to 12 years;
• Before and After School Program areas will be based out of shared spaces within HDSB schools, therefore, requiring movement/set up of equipment on a daily/weekly/monthly basis;
• Perform the duties and meet the requirements of a before and after school program as legislated by the Ministry of Education, Child Care and Licensing;
• Plan, organize and lead activities for children 3.8 years to 12 years of age to meet the developmental needs of children;
• Ensure the supervision and health and safety of the children is maintained at all times;
• Liaise with parents and community contacts.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Degree or Diploma in Early Childhood Education
• A member in good standing of the College of Early Childhood Educators
• 18 years of age or older
• Current Standard First Aid and Infant Child CPR-C & AED certification (Level C), or willing to be certified
• Current and clear Criminal Reference and Vulnerable Sector Check
• Current health assessment and immunization, in accordance with local Public Health guidelines.
• Strong interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport with children, families, staff/volunteers, and community partners
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Working Computer knowledge
• Applicants must have availability and commitment to pick up supply jobs in the Extended Day Program
