    We are excited to offer the opportunity for an experienced OH&S professional to join BCH as our Occupational Health and Safety Officer. We are seeking an enthusiastic person with a thorough knowledge of Victorian OH&S legislation and experience in Risk Management, Incident Management and Hazard Identification.
    This role is offered part time, 0.6 FTE, 22.8 hours per week over 3 or 4 days (to accommodate school hours) and is based on the Bellarine Peninsula.
Responsibilities

The Occupational Health and Safety Officer will develop and foster a culture where the inherent risks and hazards in healthcare provision are eliminated, controlled and reduced. The OH&S Officer is responsible for ensuring compliance with all relevant health and safety laws and regulations, as set out in the Occupational Health and safety (OH&S) Act 2004 and associated regulations.

Some of the duties the OH&S Officer is responsible for include:

  • Maintenance, review and implementation of BCH’s Occupational Health and Safety Plan
  • Development and maintenance of systems to identify, evaluate, correct, control and/or eliminate probable and actual hazards and/or injurious situations in collaboration with staff and management
  • Regular consultation with employees and others to ensure that occupational health and safety is effectively implemented and maintained
  • To direct and provide support to the Occupational Health and Safety Group
  • Ensure Designated Work Groups and Health and Safety Representatives are appointed, trained and supported to undertake their responsibilities as specified in the Occupational Health and Safety Act (2004)
  • Development and review of OH&S policies, procedures and guidelines, including those associated with Occupational Violence and Aggression, Manual Handling, Slips, Trips and Falls, Staff Wellbeing and Respectful Workplace Behaviours
  • Organisation of relevant staff training in accordance with all current OH&S legislation, regulations, Australian Standards and BCH emergency procedures
  • Provision of support to the People and Culture Manager and Leadership Team in relation to managing Workers’ Compensation Claims, Return To Work arrangements and supporting modified duties where required.
