Description

GENERAL:

Develop pro-active relationships with staff and CNMs to promote the role of an effective OHS.
Develop and maintain effective communication with other health and safety professionals and with the Health & Safety Authority.
Adhere to professional standards and guidelines set out by professional and statutory bodies relevant to the work of an OHS.
Undertake any other duties as may be reasonably assigned by management.
Carry out prevention strategies and management of occupational blood & bodily fluid exposure (OBEs) and provide follow up care to healthcare workers involved in such incidences.
Maintain and monitor the use of Needle stick Injury Packs within all clinical Departments and provide regular training to the staff and managers on the prevention and management e.g Needle stick Injury Sharp Injures.
Carry out monthly audits on the Safe Use of Sharps using the MEG Audit tool and report results to managers of relevant Departments.
Maintain a data base on OBE injuries and report on same in the quarterly Health and Safety committee meetings and Annual Clinic Audit.
Manage immunization programmes for staff in accordance with occupational health vaccination policies and medicinal protocols.

Qualifications & Experience:
Registered in the General division of the Register of Nurses & Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
Have at least 5 years post registration experience.
Have at least 2 years’ experience in a management role, ideally in the speciality of occupational health.
Ideally hold a recognised Occupational Health qualification or undertaking one.

PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE:

Demonstrate experience of case management, or condition management programmes.
Demonstrate experience in an occupational health nurse advisor role.
Demonstrate knowledge of health promotion in work settings.
Demonstrate knowledge of infection control issues.
Demonstrate experience of manual handling risk management
Demonstrate knowledge of stress management techniques.
Experience of occupational health provision in healthcare setting.
Promote good relationships with other key members of the clinic staff through the exercising of attitudes which convey an understanding and awareness of the wider function of the clinic.

OVERVIEW OF ROLE:

UPMC Sports Surgery Clinic are currently recruiting for a full or part-time Occupational Health Clinical Nurse Manager.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The aim of the Occupational Health Department is based on the Occupational Health Model of Care which includes the following principles:To prevent staff becoming ill or injured due to workplace factors and to assess and to advise employees who become unwell or injured while in the workplace.
  • To actively promote health and wellbeing in the work place.
  • To provide staff with timely and quality care in the event of work place injury or illness.
  • To proactively manage occupational hazards through the risk assessment process.
  • To help staff remain in the workforce after illness or injury by advising on interventions such as reasonable accommodations and phased return to work programmes.
  • To teach and train all staff members and managers on how to support employees through matters of health and wellbeing.

PURPOSE OF POST:

To embrace strategic aspects of a wider workplace health services agenda which includes healthy working lives, workplace health promotion and working health services. There is a pivotal role in service planning, co-ordinating, and managing activity and resources within the OHS.
