Description
Lead the building and ongoing development of a highly effective and collaborative safety team, including Plant Safety Engineers, the Fire Protection Specialist, the Environment Engineer, and the Emergency Response Team, fostering a culture of excellence and proactive safety management. Interprets and administers company policies. Develops and implements programs related to risk assessment, hazard identification, incident investigations, compliance inspections, safety culture and engagement, etc. to prevent incidents and hazards within the workplace. Manages plant and facility-wide safety processes and initiatives including the company's Safety Operating System (SOS), emergency response planning and training, and off-standard approvals, with consistency in a timely manner. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, and corporate policies through collaboration with the plant leaders, Corporate Safety, Fire, Medical and Security functions. Serves as a primary point of contact for regular inspections and audits to identify and assess workplace hazards, review new equipment for safety concerns, develop activity hazard analysis, complete preventive maintenance procedures. Develops and monitors KPIs for tracking safety incidents, injury statistics, corrective actions, training hours, resolution time, etc. to ensure a safe and hazard-free working environment, develops internal reports for Legal & Compliance, and onsite facility/plant management teams. Develops and presents analytics supporting trends, common causes, improvement opportunities, and other key findings that support hazard identification and mitigation strategies. Oversees the maintenance of accurate records and documentation related to occupational safety matters in line with established policies and compliance requirements. Leads the administration of plant-specific Environmental, Health and Safety training for such topics as New Employee Induction Training, Machinery and Equipment safety, Energy Control and Power Lockout, Incident Investigation techniques, Ergonomics, fire safety and High Risk Activities supporting skilled trades and industrial vehicle. Communicates effectively with statutory authorities, regulatory bodies, and corporate representatives and resolves safety issues and risks highlighted by other functions and external safety auditors/ consultants and coordinates with these stakeholders to design appropriate precautionary measures to prevent their recurrence, anticipates operational roadblocks, and develops facility/plant specific safety and loss control programs and processes for seamless implementation. Participates as necessary in the delivery of regional and facility Occupational Safety specific communication, standards, and practices related to occupational. Responsible for Developing a site specific Environmental, Health and Safety Communication strategy targeted at general EHS topics as well as targeted risk mitigation messages. Supports and performs performance management talent management responsibilities including performance management, professional development, succession planning, disciplinary action, terminations, recruitment, pay decisions, and other personnel actions. Work performed requires a good deal of walking or standing and may include some sedentary work and working conditions that include moderate noise levels related to the use of office equipment or machinery. Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree (preferred) in Occupational Health & Safety, Safety/Health Sciences, or any other related discipline or commensurate work experience. Minimum 5 years of work experience with a Master's degree or 8 years of work experience with a Bachelor's degree, preferably in Occupational Safety or a related field.
