REQUIREMENTS

  • Baccalaureate or Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy required.
  • Current registration to practice as an Occupational Therapist with good standing in any one province or territory is required.
  • Certification with the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT) is required, or must be eligible for certification.

EXPERIENCE

  • General clinical experience of two or more years is preferred.
  • Experience with children preferred.
  • Experience writing and drafting own reports is preferred.
  • Experience with virtual therapy preferred
  • Cross-cultural awareness and experience is preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Conducts an accurate clinical assessment relevant to the patient’s needs
  • Establishes, implements and evaluates appropriate therapeutic interventions as appropriate.
  • Consults with the client and multidisciplinary team to modify or discontinue interventions as appropriate.
  • Acts in a manner consistent with the professional responsibilities and standards of practice.
  • Helps the client and/or caregiver understand the nature of the patient’s disorder and sets and reviews goals in collaboration with them.
  • Provides education to patients/families on how to carry out intervention recommendations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient progress, treatment plans, and case management activities.
  • Maintain professional competence by keeping abreast of current practices and therapies to contribute to achieving the best outcomes for patients.
  • Management of patient care indirect activities such as equipment prescription, referral management, community visit preparation, documentation and other activities as needed to manage patient care.
  • Maintains written procedures, indexes, logs and records for activities within the area of responsibility.
  • Must practice cultural humility and have knowledge and understanding working with diverse populations.
  • Maintains appropriate case notes, reports, and client documentation.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal, organizational and time management skills.
  • Able to work independently and within a team environment.
