Job Details Job Location: Loves Parks, IL 61111 Education Level: 4 Year Degree Salary Range: $51.00 - $67.16 Hourly Travel Percentage: None QUALIFICATIONS: The therapist must possess a bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited program in occupational therapy and must have Illinois licensure. Additional qualifications include the ability to work with diverse populations, good communication skills, a professional appearance, and ability to function as an occupational therapist without direct or indirect supervision. Prior experience in the treatment of individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred. BASIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: The therapist shall provide occupational therapy services to the individuals who reside within the Milestone system. Services will be provided at all facilities throughout the Milestone system, including group homes and work sites. The therapist will evaluate the occupational therapy needs of individuals and provide recommendations for treatment and programming to remediate issues that impact optimum functioning. Assessments will address factors such as positioning, adaptive equipment needs, upper extremity splinting, range of motion, therapeutic handling, sensory integration, developmental motor skills, and activities of daily living, in addition to perceptual, fine, and oral motor development. The therapist shall work co-operatively with therapy aides to develop appropriate programs to enhance functional skill performance. On going training with therapy aides, as well as monitoring of program implementation, will be essential to develop and direct occupational therapy services. Evaluation The therapist shall utilize pertinent assessment tools to evaluate the status of individuals. The therapist shall set goals and formulate an intervention plan pertinent to each individual’s status and needs. The therapist shall reassess progress of individuals on a regular basis intermittently, as determined by the interdisciplinary team. II.. Programming The therapist shall provide direct treatment as indicated by the needs of individuals evaluated. The therapist shall provide training to staff to facilitate functional skills individuals served. The therapist shall complete documentation to record services provided, in agreement with Milestone, state and federal regulations. The therapist shall promote proper positioning for performance of functional abilities by Milestone individuals through participation in regularly wheelchair clinics. Consultation The therapist shall provide in-service training to supervisory, administrative, and direct care staff regarding occupational therapy techniques and concepts. The therapist shall promote an atmosphere conducive to constructive interchange and problem solving. therapist shall serve as a member of the interdisciplinary team, providing recommendations to the team as necessary to maximize functioning of individuals served. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work Locations Job duties are performed indoors, within the structures operated by Milestone for housing or habilitation of Milestone individuals. On occasion, services may be provided in hallways or areas where dust or debris may sometimes be present. Most facilities are air conditioned and adequately ventilated and heated. On occasion, odors may emanate from cleaning supplies or bathrooms. Work Postures Up to 50% of the time is spent intermittently walking, standing, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling or stooping to access and treat individuals. The remainder of the time is spent in a sitting position to document individual progress and evaluation. Lifting and Carrying Frequent lifting of 25-50 pounds and occasional lifting of 51-75 pounds will occur. Frequent carrying of 20 pounds or less will occur. Auditory and visual Visual acuity must be adequate to allow reading of small print. Hearing skills must be adequate for communication with staff and individuals. Psychological Strong interpersonal skills are required for interaction with individuals and staff. The therapist must be able to handle demands from a wide variety of sources, including individuals and family, as well as staff and accrediting/licensing agencies.
